Plaque from official opening ceremony held on 21st May 1959.
The opening was a grand and glittering affair carried out by The Lord Chancellor, Viscount Kilmuir GCVO and attended by Mr H.J.Heinz II and over 450 distinguished guests, some of whom came up from London on a special train. After a dedication by the Bishop of Liverpool, guests lunched and toured the plant.
HM The Queen Mother visited the plant a month later on 24th June 1959.
