Class 47 with 5 coaches - probably one of the Liverpool Lime St to Glasgow/Edinburgh "portions" which ran via Earlestown & Golborne Junction and combined with the other half of the train coming from Manchester Vic. at Preston.

These were the days when Liverpool had through trains to Scotland every few hours - also handy, if you timed it right, for a fast non-stop trip between Liverpool and Wigan NW in a comfortable InterCity coach. Much better than those Pacers used today.

You are right English! Remember that slow drag around Golborne junction. You kissed the road!!! My mate, and I bought a national time table for 75p in 1974. This how we found this service. Merseyrover: 50p for the weekend!!!
