A photo my father took during a Lythgoe Cup match at Shevington, 1954/55, between Highfield and Wigan Grammar. I'm there somewhere with my hands on hips (right back) playing for the Grammar (we won the cup that year) with nothing much to do. Perhaps the most interesting feature was that the Highfield goalkeeper was Dave Gaskell who went on to play for Manchester United and was in fact the youngest player ever to represent the club at 16 years and some days. he left Man U in 1969 I believe.

I think your age is getting the better of you Keith, Pop Gaskell went to Lamberhead green school, were he played for England schoolboys.

Thanks Tom! You're probably right.

Keith it looks like Highfield school field with the 2 houses, and to the left of the houses the boys brigade hut.

Thank you ttd for that extra information. All I can remember is that it seemed like a very large field with a significant slope and I had little to do throughout the match, just as well really since I wasn't the quickest of full backs.

Keith, did you play full-back for Wigan Colts aka Wigan Juniors (at the then Wigan Old Boys at Prospect) around 1961 ish ?

Hi jcf, yes, guilty as charged. I really enjoyed those few short years.
