This slide was taken from a spot just under the end of the trees on the towpath side with the Boathouse Bridge, or Plantation Bridge, behind and looking around the bend towards Shedfield Bridge.
I am going for 1953 approx and I think that you could take a photo from this spot most any year you want after that and it wouldn't look much different. They do cut back the far bank trees from time to time.
It's very strange for me to think that I once spent the entire January about thirty years later fishing these tree end pegs for big perch without realising that this photo existed.
