Iam almost sure that this was for boats to unload coal for the gas works if anyone as the book wigan memories you can see a double page photo of this section of canal pages 64&65
Tim. Was this Deakin's preserve factory in the vicinity of Queen's Street, off Wallgate?. Did it close down in the fifties, or early sixties?.
Albert, Deakins was off Bradford St. to the bottom and turn left I remember having a party for the Queen's Coronation there, my mam worked there. Bradford St. was further down Chapel Lane opposite side of road to Queen St.8aj46
Thank you Anne. It is many a year since I was in that area. I remember it once being a police beat, named. "All around Wallgate."
Was Bradford Place the street going from left to right on this photo?
Wood st.Bradford st. Green st.ran down to this area off chapel lane Brown & Haigh had a factory at bottom of wood st NW electricity board was in Bradford place ; this area is now Actons walk trading estate

Sonia yes you are right at the bottom of Bradford St. nd turn left was Deakins , Bradford Place ran all the way down from Deakins to Norweb

Not a footbridge just an overhead pipe and if you walk down now there be two overhead pipes bridges.
