i AM ALMOST SURE THIS BARG WAS NAMED
I am almost sure this barge was named Ambush, The Bargee is Charlie Davis, The boat in the background is a British Waterways matainance boat.
I think Ambush is still in Wigan and goes around selling diesel and firewood.
Charlie was my father and was the last of three generations to work and own canal boats. He carved a replica of the ambush in an old piece of wood complete with all the tools needed on board which has pride of place in my home along with another, the Robert,a smaller boat. My mother brother and I used to walk along the bank from Adlington to meet him coming from Blackburn or Wigan and hitch a ride back to Adlington. I now live in Saddleworth (narrow boat country) My brother lives in Exeter where he is a University professor. The photo brings back happy memories many thanks I would like a copy if at all possible.
This is indeed Ambush which is now moored at Crookes and works as a floating refuelling barge. It is classified as a historic boat. It came from Liverpool and was a seagoing vessel with coamimgs and hatch covers. I used the hatch covers as a roof when I built a new workshop and pigeon cote in Adlington. It is still standing 50 years later!
