The Wellfield Hotel car park wall was a meeting place for a number of youngsters in Beech Hill at times. I’ve put together a collage of images taken from a super 8 cine film of 1967 approx. I have no idea of names apart from my niece Carol who is sitting on the wall in her red dress in the bottom photo. The young lad is clinging on to the substantial wooden stanchion that held the Wellfield Hotel sign, with the Wellfield Road in the background. The young girls look as if they are possibly taking a lunch time break, just a guess.

The Wellfield is the pub in Beech Hill, there used to be another pub in Beech Hill called the Beech Tree demolished a few years ago. The houses in Beech Hill are identical to those in Bottling Wood built in the 1930s. Don't know who the children are, but the white car is a once very ubiquitous Austin or Morris 1100, and not the more upmarket Wolseley, Riley, MG or Vanden Plas versions with the grille and lack of chrome on the side. Its registration number can't be seen.

Would be nice to see the cube film the stills were taken from. There must be a treasure trove of old films like this sitting in someone's loft having never been seen for years.
