Beech Hill youngsters playing in the sand amongst the building materials which have been delivered for the proposed Wellfield Hotel. Probably 1954/55 since the pub was opened on February 14th 1956. Someone donated this photo to my father who was the first landlord. I know the estate is a heavily built up area so can anyone tell me what was in this space before the pub?

There was nothing there,Keith. Between the parade of shops there was nothing but open space until the continuation of the houses on Wellfield Road, except for one of the old style police call boxes with a flashing light on top to alert the local beat bobby that someone needed to talk to him at the Central Police Station in Wigan.
