History of Wigan   (Help with ancient and recent history.)

After spending years on my family history and found that most of them who lived in Wigan were buried at the Parish Church of All Saints. Considering that there were thousands of them buried from the Wigan area, does anyone know what happened to them all, as I now see that the Parish Church area is smaller.
