History of Wigan   (Help with ancient and recent history.)

My gt gt gt grandfather, who lived in Standishgate was committed to Denbigh asylum (North wales) in 1871, followed by A stint in Prestwich asylum in 1872, then the county asylum in Lancaster in March 1874 (where he remained until his death in June 1896). i'm sure that if there had been an asylum in wigan he would have been sent there?
