Looking at that pic . the setts are well out into the road near where He has signed his name.
Anyway I have had a play with the above mentioned rollers on a couple of scrap bits of track.

Tried several methods of colouring, mainly thin washes of acrylic paint then a rub over with some sand paper

Next experiment will include trying to make them look 'rained on' and a bit of spilt coal and coal dust about the place.Ah well back to soldering dozens of wires to rails in an effort to get the trains running.
