Dave, I take quite a lot of sunsets, as I want to create a calender with a good sunset for each month from where I live.

I find that photo-ready sunsets only last a few minutes and in 10 minutes big changes can happen. I take a lot at different exposures and I am pleased if I get one good one. I usually need to set my camera with exposure compensation EV -1/3 to -1 otherwise colour and details get lost.
