Another update, Ancestry points out that the Irish portion of my dna originates from county Connaught in Ireland. Very likely lots of people left for America and mainland Britain during the famine, that would explain the dna 4th to 5th generation matches I incur with several Americans.
By the way, my dad was so convinced his father died at Arnhem, he actually applied to the filmcrew of 'A Bridge too Far' as an extra - but they turned him down. According to his account, my grandfather was a paratrooper who came across in one of those gliders and was killed parashooting down.
