Places   (Help with places, streets and buildings in Wigan.)

Started by: erwick (135)

Hi Greener and Janet,
As you know Janet I've lived in Downall Green for 50 out of my 60 years and there are big changes.
Just to name a few of the changes, the Church, I think plays a big part. No Walking Days, no choir to speak of and I'm not being disrespectful to the people who are in the choir at the moment, if there still is a choir. No Church hall, has been sold off, therefore no womens classes and no concerts.
There are no small industries anymore. The likes of Millingford Engineering, Cromptons and the works that followed Cromptons on the old site, such as Pilkington's garage.
The S & S club has long since disappeared and the Legion grounds.
I think what I am coming around to say is that, the places where people used to meet up, whether at work, play or socially, have gone, replaced by housing developments.

Just an observation.

Erwick
