As for Wood pit that Sunday when the fire started my brother was working on the surface when he got a phone call from underground telling him about the fire and call out the rescue team straight away and act as go between, they told him not to bring anyone up till we arrive, don't know what went on underground other than they brought the men up and flooded the pit there and then never to open up again after that Sunday in 1970 (they may both have been on the mine recue team)
