dougie, thanks for correcting the link to the map.

My memory is getting a little vague now, but I seem to remember that in the Dell there was a bridge over what we knew as Millingford Brook (marked as Down Brook on the map) that must have been used by the Vicar to go up to the church. As regards the woods on the school side of the brook, I dont remember it being called anything, even if it probably was!

I only remember two things about that particular area. First, when we were at Rectory School, we would play cricket there on the odd occasion.

Second, it was where one of the vicars assaulted a young lad. I'm not sure which one it was, but the incident would have been around 1960 or so. This particular vicar passed away about 12 months after the event. It was a bit of a scandal at the time. Although the lad was not serious enough to be sent to hospital, the attending Doctor, (McCurdy) wanted the parents to press charges. This was averted by an apology made by the vicar.

I always knew the woods near Spindle Hillock as being Bluebell Woods. Thats the reason I was surprised to see it marked as The Clough on the map.
