I got there late
as they turned the house lights bright.
Someone said,
Too late, he's gone, out of sight.

But he left you this song,
about Sam Stone,
saying you'd understand
when you got home.

And so I did,
holding back the tears,
having missed this voice,
over all these years.

And listening now,
I just had to know,
why I'd never heard
his music before.

This man of words
and voice of gold,
that I'd saved for the day
when I got old.

And so I hear his voice
for the first time tonight,
and the years fall away
and the world's alright...
