Income from parking charges at the Wigan, Wrightington and Leigh hospitals just about covers the car park costs of running and maintaining the carparks.
Certain categories of patients and visitors get free or subsidised parking.
If the charges were abolished the costs of the car parks would have to come from the clinical budget. This would be equivalent to 130 hip replacement procedures yearly.
