"Here is the consultation document for the new Galleries in Wigan Town Centre.

We are shocked to see the plans to demolish the existing buildings which are around thirty years old.
The existing red brick buildings of the Galleries and the Clock Tower are much more in keeping with the area and they are still in very good condition.
The design, by the award winning local architect Anthony Grimshaw (we think) still looks very good.
Surely the existing market hall should be developed instead of demolished and moved ...
Do we really need another cinema and a bowling alley ... we already have these. They will just put the others out of business.
Do we really need another hotel in the town? What will happen to the existing ones ... do these get filled?
Will people really choose this as a retirement place to live?
The design in this picture looks more like a transport terminal.
We understand that the buildings need to be repurposed but this can still be done without a complete new build. Demolishing the existing buildings will dramatically change the townscape in order to achieve it ...
Why not come back with an alternative plan showing how the existing buildings can be retained but readapted and enhanced?
Let’s see the different options side by side and then we can assess the merits of each proposal to help us make a real decision.
The Consultation period is very short and closes on June 1st ... please make sure you have your say on the proposals ...

It is not a done deal and your views are important.

Please let the Council know what you think.
Your views matter.
