Policeman Tonks..!!..I was no rocket scientist...left school with basic grades..joined Royal Navy at 16yrs..Only reason I got in G.M.P. is that I was ex - R.N. (Service's).
The three qualities of a Policeman...in my time...
1. A good sense of humour.
2. Common sense.
3. A little compassion.

Nothing else was required.
