I don't see it as Celebrating Guy Fawkes for what he was trying to do.. I see it as Celebrating the fact that his plan was foiled and he was put to death and rightly so..

That said, Religion is the cause of more wars and millions of deaths over the Centuries, Christianity being one of them.. My neighbours tell me I am going to Hell when I die, because I am a Unitarian, they are Evangelic Southern Baptist and in their mind, only E S B will be Raptured when the end comes... the rest will burn in hell.. SO .......
