Yes Priscus, and that is what the Maglev is, a viaduct. But we aren't talking viaducts here. They cost a hell of a lot more money than what Wigan Council have earmarked for this job. For the £4.2 million in the budget for this piece of road they will get an excavation down to good solid virgin clay which is usually about 2ft below the surface. Then the road build up will be a foot of imported MOT standard rolled stone and 10 inches of base and top coat tarmac. Throw in the associated drainage, any earthworks for streams, small cuttings or embankments, footpath and fencing and there is your £4.2 million gone.
