The tradition generally died out every June

Always had one in Platt Bridge, used your mother's old net curtains for a veil.

I don't think I've seen a May queen procession in Wigan for about 15 years.

I was thinking about May Queens this mrning and wondered if they still happened. We used to plan ours for ages and you'd see loads parading around the streets. It was quite a big event for children. I suppose if children did it now the costumes would all be shop bought. It was alovely tradition.

One year I was Davy Crockett another year a Pirate. We used to walk from Ridyard St up to Rylances at Halfway House and collect coppers of folk as we passed. If you went up Norley on any saturday afternoon in May you would probably pass three or four separate processions full of Pitmen and Fairies

Not seen one although on the telly last week thirteen blokes in White shirts with Red Vee's were pretending to be Rugby League players. Not far from Haydock I think
