Crow Orchard Colliery

When did this colliery close for good? I think the shafts and main operation were at the top of Deakin, just off Warrington Road and there may have been some company housing on Warrington, opposite Deakin.

Crow Orchard finally closed in the late 1890s.
The colliery line from the main line railway, which crossed over Westwood Lane on a level crossing, continued to be used until the 1950s. Part of the colliery land was used as a landsale coalyard and the coal was brought in that way.
The coalyard was situated between Hilton St and Banner St, part of the old concrete fence is still visible.

Winder am I right in thinking the very earliest Crow Orchard pits were east of Warrington Road in the Wilding St./ Crow Orchard Terrace area? I am thinking circa 1830

Yes you're right, there was a Crow Orchard pit on the East side, but I can't find any info about opening and closure dates.
The Crow Orchard pit off Westwood Lane was owned by H and E Hilton and under their ownership it was known as Ince Hall coll. This pit closed in 1842 when the Hilton Brothers were declared bankrupt.

Thomas Pearson later reopened the pit and re named it Crow Orchard.
