... urged to get in touch. (Leigh Journal - 18/1/14):

A historian is looking for people with relatives who nursed or drove ambulances in the First World War.

Sue Robinson runs not-for-profit company Roses of No Man’s Land, the name given to the nurses and Red Cross voluntary aid detachment in the war, which is sponsoring a group of women called Wenches in Trenches.

They are walking from Poperinge to the Menin Gate dressed as nurses and to lay wreaths there in September.

'f you have a relative who served 1914-18 as a medic/nurse/stretcher bearer or ambulance driver and would like us to lay a wreath or poppy cross please email and make arrangements with us.'

Watching Field of Crimson on Sunday, what a fitting tribute to the nurses and VAD's etc during WW1. I think this is going to be a cracking drama and to see what those soldiers had to endure.

On Antiques Roadshaw on Sunday three generations of a family and the grandma was telling the story of her father who saved ten lives and received the VC. Not ashamed to say it brought a tear to my eye.
