A bright cool day here in Blighty, 10C forecast.
Well yours truly is unwell, I’m down with lurgy / man flu / cold, delete as appropriate.
Susan had it last week so I suppose it was inevitable I got it.
Anyroad, I’ve rested and kept warm all morning.
I’m not leaving the house today.
Hope you all had a good weekend.
Mo I caught your painting on WW p.a.d, absolutely fantastic, you should be really proud of that.

wing-noting-thin-thing-going-owing-ingot.

I found that hard today.
Well done to Marie.

Lizzie, Australia seem to be well in front in the cricket in Adelaide, glad you’re not rubbing our noses in it LOL
You got a good soaking too, which caused ‘rain stopped play’ thankfully.
Thanks for the start of our weekly wordage and our new thread

Hello everyone, thank you our Lizzie and Ray for your kind comments.
Ray,I think it'll be the man flu/cold you have..you had your flu jab didn't you
anyway just keep warm and relax (if that's possible)
Ron Hunt just nipped round to ours..he only lives around the corner..to lend
me a book that got mentioned on one of 'Album' photos,I always thought that Tom Burke was just a street singer, but he was a lot more than that..I'm
looking forward to reading it.

Off we go Whig,whit,with,ting,twin,twig,towing,gigot,gigo,hint,nigh,nothing.
Vince will have more of that I'm sure.

Well done Marie,it wasn't an easy one today was it.

Thanks for the new thread our Lizzie..looking forward to a new week of

I'm sure Mo and Vince will rattle some off.

Lizzie, I never thought you would have a problem with the cricket, you've lived almost all your life in Oz, and brought your family up there.
Also I would imagine you have a strong Aussie accent, your Wigan talk long since gone.
Anyroad, may the best team win, I don't reckon our chances much

A big hello to everybody.
A bright sunny but very cold day here in Blighty, 5C forecast.
Well, we have new next door neighbours today.
The wife called round in the week and seemed very nice.
The husband called round last night to introduce himself, which was very civil.
He is a builder and he is going to convert the 3 bedroom house into a 5 bedroom.
Thankfully we have a big distance between our houses and we are detached.
He is knocking the detached garage down which is close to our boundary and adding the new extension on to the side of his house, so the new building will be further away from us than the garage.
We were mightily relieved when he told us that.

hand-tansad-santa-dash.

Sorry Mo, I hope there are some left for you.
I would love to see your sepia painting Mo, but if it's a faff to do, don't put yourself out.

Enjoy your trip Marie, you can always do the quiz tomorrow.

Lizzie, I know that you get your words from the daily paper, but some days especially when it's a high word count, you have to do an awful lot of typing and that's what I mean when I say it's appreciated.
As you say it's also good to learn new words.
Thanks for our Friday wordage

Mo, thanks ever so for sending me your painting.
What a fantastic likeness you have done, it is just so good.
I absolutely love the sepia effect, it’s something a little bit different.
Well done you.
I’ve saved it in a folder with your ‘Mona Lisa’ painting which you sent me a while ago.
Even though we’ve lived in Howfen for 40 odd years, I very much doubt I will know your friend.
See you later on the quiz.

Thank you Ray..it's really only half sepia, the reason being that I have no idea what the colour of the eyes are,nor the colour of the material of the
clothing..the sepia paintings I have seen put mine in the shade..but..I'm
determined to get better at it, Burnt Umber in any painting is my favourite,
and it's used a lot in sepia...see you tonight.

We're having a different day today, we've done domestics this morning and we're going to Sainsies in Leyth this arvo., simply because we had a heavy overnight frost (but thankfully not as bad as I was expecting) and we figured the roads would be better after lunch.
We had a really lovely do at Hindley History Society Christmas party last night, they are such a good bunch of people.
We had a brilliant quiz and then some lovely party food.

A good day to all.
A cloudy slightly bright and thankfully a little warmer day here in Blighty, 5C forecast.
I am 71 years old today.
A lazy morning on me lappy, then our Kit rang to wish me happy birthday, so we had a good 45 minutes of a natter.
This arvo we're having a drive out to Bent's Garden Centre at Glazebury, it's always full of baby boomers like us!!!!!!!!! LOL

Mo, I don't know if you go on WR on Tuesday night, but Admin does a half decent quiz, not as good as mine of course LOL
Of course it may be that your lad phones/skypes and you can't come on, but there was only 3 people came on last night, a real shame.

Lizzie, it seems you are a victim of your sunny climate.
Good to see you are slapping on the factor 50
We'll be thinking of you on Friday.

A big hello to everybody.
A thoroughly wet dull miserable day here in Blighty on this the Winter solstice, the only consolation is it was a mild 10.5C going to class this morning.
I forgot to say last week that we have moved into the new leisure centre which is built next to the old one.
It's quite posh too, with everything being brand new, we do our class in 'Studio Two'.
We had coffee and a mince pie in the gym after class, very nice.

Mo, we did get to Wigan yesterday, and yes we got wet, but it was nice to see a bit of Christmas atmosphere.

A big Friday hello to everybody.
A cloudy but not unpleasant day here in Blighty, 11C going into Bowton this morning.
A busy morning Christmas cleaning, then a dash to get some wine kits which I'll do between Xmas and New Year.
This arvo, a trip to the supermarket, probably Tesco at Horwich to get some drinkypoos for Christmas LOL.
Sainsies at Leyth is very difficult to park this time of year as their car park also serves a retail park, a fitness centre, an M & S and KFC.

Well Mo, it looks like it's only me and thee from now on LOL

Hello to Mo and Lizzie.
A beautiful sunny but very cold here in Blighty , 3C forecast.

I started to do the words earlier around lunchtime, then our Kit and her fiancée arrived for a buffet lunch.
They went about an hour ago, so me and Susan managed to get a local walk in, it was extremely cold and uncomfortable.
I’ve just finished washing up, it’s the least I can do, Susan put a beltin’ spread on.

Hope you are having a good day Mo and enjoying the holidays.

A very Happy New Years day to all
I wasn't expecting any anagrams today, so this is a bonus.
Hope you all survived the celebrations last night.
We had a quiet night in and the went upstairs at midnight to watch all the fireworks down below in the Wigan and Hindley area as we are quite high up here in Howfen.
Then a few scoops LOL.
A cloudy cool day here in Blighty, a dry morning but rain is on the cards this arvo, 7C forecast.

What are we all doing this New Years Day?

A trip to Wigan this arvo to Currys to get a 32" Samsung TV for the dining room, we did a reccie a few days ago.

A cool and wet day in Blighty, 6C going to Leyth this morning.
Well, we're back in the old routine.
Hope everybody has recovered from the excesses of Christmas and New Year.
I have to say I have been very careful and have not put even a single ounce on.

Are you round at Owd Daves this arvo Mo?
I'm going to have a lazy afternoon, Susan is doing us a couple of duck breasts for 'tea', so we are not quite back in the routine food wise.

A very good day to all.
A cloudy but thankfully slightly warmer day here in Blighty, 8C.
We made a spur-of-the-moment decision this morning to go to the Trafford Centre in Stretford, hence the late posting.
Susan was looking for wedding shoes and saw a nice pair in M & S.
They didn’t have her size 4 in stock, so she has ordered on line when we got home.
Yours truly got 2 pairs of tartan jim jams from M& S so will be posh going to bed tonight LOL

Well done with the words everybody, it wasn’t a high word count today, I think we’ve done well between us.

Lizzie, sounds like every Wednesday is bargain day LOL.
It’s better off in your pocket than the supermarkets
Thanks for our midweek wordage

A big hello to all.
The usual last minute decision to go to the Trafford Centre this morning.
We set off in sunshine and then we had rain, sleet and hailstones thrown at us.
A similar journey home too.
Thankfully we had a successful shopping trip in M & S.
Susan got her ‘wedding’ handbag, and I got 2 more pairs of jim jams and some tracky bottoms for cardiac class tomorrow, I’ve been going in shorts and its been ‘taters round me legs LOL
I also was looking at ‘wedding’ suits, will probably get one next time we go.
We’ve just got home, and as you say Mo and Marie, I am definitely not going for any walk, it was only 2C on the M61.

Well done with the words everybody, try as I may I can’t add any more.

Lizzie, sounds like you are having some manageable weather, enjoy.
Big thanks as ever

A big belated hello to all.
A bright sunny but cold day here in Blighty, 7C going to class this morning.
The usual very busy Thursday for me.
Just to make a busy day even busier, there was a major RTA on the A58 Park Rd coming home, so we did a U turn and headed for the A6 to come home via Church St only to find a broken down bus blocking the main carriageway, absolute total chaos.
It took us an hour and a quarter to get home.

Mo, I couldn’t believe it when you knew the name my old friend Tony..
I did reply to your post, but it was rather late and you may have missed it.
I wondered if you knew his Mum, a Scottish lady who was a nurse.
And yes, I did have my new tracky bottoms on this morning, it was taters.

Well done with the words everybody
Hope you can get over the lurgy Vince, take care.

incant-tictac-anti-can’t-cain.

Lizzie, it’s very handy having Keith as a bricklayer, I’m sure he’ll do a grand job of the plastering and decorating.

Ray,what a small world it is,Helen Sankey was on the same Ward as I was,
and I worked with her for eight years,We finished up very good friends and
returned home one morning after shopping and there was a note pushed
through the letter box asking me if I would go to her house as she has something for our Lee.he was about eight at the time.We went and she gave him and Easter egg and bought me some tights.
When the Sister on the Ward was retiring the staff asked me if I'd paint
something for her..I painted Mona Lisa ( It finished up in the Wigan
Observer) and Helen said "I wish someone would paint a picture for me" of
course I said yes and she ran to Sisters office and ran back with a postcard
of The Isle of Arran..so of course when she retired I gave it to her..she was
a great woman, her nurses cap always cockeyed her top button always
undone, but when we tended to a dying person she was an angel..I will
never forget her....it sure is a small world Ray.

I’m sorry Mo, I wasn’t around much last night so didn’t see your post.
I have had a good read of what you have posted and the WW posts of Tony’s wife, very interesting indeed.
My memory of Tony’s Mum is of a very nice lady with a lovely Scottish accent.
She wasn’t around much because she was working the hours of a nurse,
Last year we were driving back from our holidays in Scotland, we were staying on the Rhins of Galloway near Stranraer.
There was a major road traffic incident and we were diverted through Castle Douglas and I thought of Tony’s Mum as that is where she was from.
It’s a lovely part of the world and Helen ended up in Ince.
Thank goodness she returned to her roots.
I haven’t seen Tony since we were teenagers.
He was the clever one and went to Thornleigh Salesian College in Bolton.
I went to Rose Bridge Sec Mod in Ince having failed my 11 plus, I had serious exam nerves and failed by temperament rather than ability.
As you have said, it’s a small world and who would have known that we have a connection with somebody in the past.
How lovely of you to have painted that picture of The Isle of Arran for her,
I wonder if it was ever found.

Mo, I always say that people of our age have lived through the best of times.
Jobs in the Sixties were easy to come by.
There were loads of engineering companies locally, but ironically I ended up starting my career at Irlam Steel Works in Manchester.
I was doing an apprenticeship, but was doing very well with my qualifications, and was asked to go into the drawing office as an apprentice draughtsman.

I have had a good career working in all sorts of companies and eventually becoming a design engineer.
In the early eighties, computer aided design (CAD) came in and I was lucky enough to work for a company that embraced it.
This progressed to 3D parametric modelling which was just the most amazing thing to work with.
So things worked out OK for a simple lad from Ince who failed his 11 plus.

Well done to you and Vince and I am looking forward to seeing what Ray gets.

there are loads of photos on there including our Lizzies.

Isn't that strange..not able to advertise ..you'd think they would be only too
happy for their good name to be advertised.

A big belated hello to all.
A thoroughly miserable wet dull day here, 7.5C going in to Bowton this arvo, but thankfully a little warmer than of late.
The usual busy Thursday for me’
I’m just settling down for the night after my ‘tea’ of tuna pasta bake, very nice Sainsies ready meal.

Good to know you’re sorted with the dryer Marie.
Mo, poor you, still waiting for your delivery, I’m sure you’ll get it soon.
Today is the sort of day when a dryer is essential isn’t it?

I’ve surprised myself with my words, I din’t think there were any left.

Lizzie, 41C is unbelievable, phew!!!!!!
Hope you’ve had a great day out with your Sis, and a nice lunch to boot.

A very good day to all.
A thoroughly wet cold miserable day here in Blighty, 4C.
Thankfully we haven't had the snow that was forecast, just very cold rain.
We managed to do our Tuesday shop, which was a bonus.

Mo, hope your dryer arrived.
Mo, as regards brewing wine, you can make it hassle free.
I buy a 21 litre kit which costs about £32.
I use 2 x 10 litre brewing buckets, so that I am not lifting heavy weights , and simply divide the grape concentrate between the two.
Top up with warmish water(20C to 25C) and then add yeast.
Leave for about 2 weeks and rack off.
The bloke who runs 'Spitting Feathers' in Gidlow Lane gave me some good advice.
Instead of washing and steralising loads of bottles when you have brewed your wine, use the 5 litre plastic containers that the grape concentrate comes in, it save a load of work.
The wine keeps very well in them.

crepe (there should be an acute accent over the second 'e') -centre-piece-percent-pierce-receipt-epic.

Well done to Marie.
Loads more for Mo and Vince.

Lizzie, seems you're in a much more pleasant period of weather, enjoy.

A cloudy cold day here in Blighty, 5C.

Hope we can get an afternoon walk in.

Mo, hope you've got your dryer working.
Marie, home winemaking is very easy.
Add water to grape concentrate in a plastic bucket, add yeast, leave for 2 weeks and that's it.
Hindley History Society is mainly local history, but also general history. On Monday we had a really interesting talk with a brilliant slideshow about the role that women played in WW1.
We wouldn't have won the war without the part they played.
They replaced farm workers on the land, they worked in munitions, they provided medical care, they repaired and maintained steam locos on the rail network, they built military vehicles and tanks on assembly lines.
All in all they were vital to the war.
A similar talk is planned in the future about women's role in WW2.

A bright sunny cloudy day here in Blighty, 8C forecast.
A very lazy morning here in Howfen.
I actually fell asleep for most of the morning LOL
This arvo a walk along the L & L canal at Rose Bridge.

Mo. we like to feed the birds too, but when we had our trees and bushes uprooted down the side of the house, they stopped feeding.
They were using the foliage to hide and then fly across for a feed then back in the bushes for safety.
I am going to move the feeding station across the garden to the other side which still has a hedge.

Have a great weekend everybody.

This arvo a local walk (as Marie says, I may not get a walk in, but weather permitting maybe I will), probably down to Hindley Cemetery, a very quiet peaceful space.

Mo. good to know that you are feeding the birds, our feeding station is in the front lawn, so it doesn't matter if they are messy, but I do wish they would feed, but they are not at the moment.
