Haven't posted anything on here for ages so just thought I would start this new thread as I always liked looking at what people are reading at home x

lesley,try this....TAKE SIX GIRLS by Laura Thompson.
It's the lives of the Mitford Sisters. Appealing and appauling in equal measure but absolutely fascinating.You really couldn't make it up. ENJOY.

Bradshaws girl..I got the book on Diana Mosely yesterday..I havent started it yet though...but I will also look out for 'Take six girls'

momac ..... you really will enjoy it but at the same time you will be aapauled that one family could lead the lives that they did.

Bradshaws girl,I started the Diane book last night..they wanted for nothing from the.very start did they..quote extract 'she brightened up the room with her beauty' I'm sure she did but let's face it,they had nothing else to do only
pamper themselves did they..I'm being catty now but still going to read the rest.

Here's another good read for you.....MY YEAR OFF by ROBERT McCRUM. The author is a well known journalist who writes for a variety of publications. This is the story of what happened to him when he suffered a stroke in his 30's. He writes very well and the story is very heartwarming. Also an eye opener about what it's like to suffer a stroke. Don't be put off by the subject matter it's very endearing too.

'Heart of Darkness' (Joseph Conrad) which, as some of you may know, is the story upon which the film 'Apocalypse Now' is based.

Bradshaws Girl - I have read this book. I am a bit of a fanatic when it comes to this family. When I am having a bad day with my twins I used to think how difficult it must have been for the parents having these six girls!

momac - have you finished ready the book? I know they were spoiled and rich - but goodness how they could get in so much trouble and have such unsuitable relationships is beyond me....

Lesley..I've been painting,but have started reading it again..they lived in another world didn't they.

Just finishing a trilogy by Guy Gavriel Kay called "The Fionavar Tapestry".

It's very good if you like Fantasy Fiction.

It's kinda Tolkienish genre with a multiverse setting an a Arthurian twist. [:p]

I have read all of Lee Childs' Jack Reacher books.

I learned recently that the insipration behind how he sets out his narrative was an American gentleman by the name of John D Macdonald, an author who wrote in the fifties and sixties.

I confess to having never heard of him and have decided that if it is good enough for Lee Childs it is good enough for me.

I have just put his back catalogue onto my Kindle and now have seventy odd books to work through. It's a good job I am retiring next Spring!

Is there anyone out there who is a fan of this particular author?

The Killing Snow by Charles Egan. its a novel about the Irish Potato famine. A must read for anyone with Irish ancestry.

Here's another good one for you ..... EMPTY CRADLES by Margaret Humphreys. This tells the story of the woman who uncovered the scandal of the forced migration of children to Australia by the U.K. governmentfrom the 1940's onwards.
There was recently a tv film about this which had been adapted
from this book. Quite harrowing but worth reading.

I have just finished " KILLER'S OF THE KING" BY Charles Spencer, if you are into History this book will be a very good read.

Strangers by Paul Finch. I just picked this at random from my Plymouth library. It's about a serial killer but I was amazed to see Wigan cropping up with bodies in Abram Bickershaw and Boesdane Woods! Finch lives in Standish apparently .

Just finished it and found that although a good read was very frustrated with the lead character towards the end - a loose cannon if ever there was one and not a believable ending

I've just finished lone rider the 1st woman to ride around the world and now just down loaded Paul Nicholl - Scally two completely different life stories.

'Ray Davies: A Complicated Life' by Johnny Rogan.Always loved the Kinks and Ray Davies. A very good read,so much about him I never knew.

My favorite author is Lee Child,I have seventeen of his Jack Reacher stories on my book shelf and I have read them all several times.At the moment I am reading The Provost's woman by Anne Vivis,a bit different to Jack Reacher of course but an enthralling read.

Read the Midnight Line by Lee Childs read all the Jack Reacher books , good read. Now reading The Origin latest one by Dan Brown very good recommend it

Thanks blackrodweaver,all the Lee Child books I have came from charity shops,it will be a while before I see his new one in there so I might treat myself and buy it new.I have got a book signed by Lee Child,friends of mine went to a crime writers convention where he was and actually took a photo of him writing my name in the book,needless to say it is my prized possession along with the lovely photo!

A couple of years ago I read a book "In Gods name" by David Yallop..it tells
of the lovely little Pope Albino Luciani who was definitely murdered in 1978
I lost the book..think I accidentally let it go to the recycle library..anyway
Hubby got me another one..it is so intriguing ..I've just started reading it
again and would recommend it to anyone.

'The Return' by Victoria Hislop, I can recommend it, found out loads about the Spanish Civil War and it's a good story.

i spent a lifetime reading technical books and cant get into any form of reading now i,m retired.anyone else felt the same.

baker boy - try something easy like James Patterson. He writes good stories with short chapters. Sorry you are not well x

just read Bird Box which is a great read. The Netflix film has made some changes. the books are always better

got the full volumes of harry potter,started the philosophers stone,book differs from the film,been to the warner bros studios to visit harry potter film set,just one word BRILLIANT.

I'm tittering my way through Tom Bower's biography of Simon Cowell. There's even a mention of Henry Africa's. Remember that

Star of the North by DB John.set in the daysof Kim Jong un's father, It tells the story of a high ranking official in North Korea, a peasant woman just trying to survive inder that regime and a CIA woman who is trying to free her sister who was kidnapped by Noeth Korea.[Apparently this went on. N Korea wanted to create mixed race babies who as adults could be sent as spies in USA etc] All their lives intertwine.It's a good read

Cannot sit and read a book but can spend hours on net reading from local news to national news or listening to singing via youtube.
