The Farmer And The Gas Main
Local news item reminded me of the tale of the tale of the farmer and the gas pipe.
Supposedly, 'some contractors' no doubt wearing donkey jackets and wellies, offered to connect a farmer's house (on the quiet) to the major pipeline they were laying for a nominal sum.
Quite an outlay, but free gas forever.
The tale goes that they did the job, the farmer had a gas supply for the first time and money changed hands.
But:
After a while the gas went off, but only at the farmhouse. So the farmer traced the pipe back from his place, only to find that he was not connected to the main, but to a big Calor gas bottle buried in a field.
Is it true?

I know a 'Gypsy' who built a house and ran a cable across to the street light before burying it in rubble and tarmac. That was some Years ago, and he STILL gets the free juice.

Any more and I'll be doing the farmer's sons and the profe wotsits joke.
I've been wracking my brains all night to remember the 'pipe layer' job advert one.
No joy.
