gas/electric bills

Started by: PeterP (11306)

Just got my bill from N-power says I am £104 in credit but my monthly payement is going up by £19When I phoned up about this I was told the £104 credit would be being refunded back to my bank account not carried over to the next quarter. Also my new payement was based on the amount of gas I had used in the last quarter(a nice cold spell)and was now projected estimate of what they thought I would use over the next 12months divided by 12 to give a average payement per month.I asked why could they not base my payement on the gas/electric usage for the last 3 years and bill me on what I had used in the past not what I may use for the rest of the year,no reply to that because payement even on new tarriff would be less than their estimate. My money is better off in my bank account than theirs.RIPPING OFF comes to mind

Why don't you simply pay them what you owe them, when you owe it?

If the supermarket told you they were charging you for what they estimated you were going to eat over the next 12 months, you'd tell them where to stick it. Wouldn't you?

ppnw at todays interest on a current account its no use getting hot under the collar ,write to them and say you are thinking of changing supplier because of this unwarranted change, they will soon be in touch.

I manage my gas/electricity on line. I am with British Gas and send my meter readings on 21st of each month and they send me an e-mail a week later telling me how much which is paid by direct debit. This suits me because I am paying for exactly the amount of gas/electric I use. I am having problems downloading a pdf copy of my statement so I e-mailed them. They sent me instructions on how to clear it but that didn't work. I then phoned them and quite a few customers are having the same problem and they are working on to clear it.

But, if I hadn't had this problem and not spoken to the technician who told me he had gone into my account and said he would put me on a better one I would never have found out about this better account which will save me an extra 4%. He told me that customers who pay online get a good deal anyway and they are never informed of better ones.

Trixie - do you send your meter reading via e-mail? If not, ring them. They set it up for me and remind me on the 20th of each month.

Yes i send them by email at the end of each month.
I sent them an e mail and hey presto they have sent me 1.
I am still waiting for an answer to my question about my bill being cheaper if paid by standing order or cheaper to just pay when i get a statement.thanks.

When I moved into my current property there were gas and electricity prepayment meters installed. Before I could arrange to have them removed I had to pay for my gas and electricity every week on a card. It actually made me more aware of what I was spending on gas and electricity and was an incentive to actually use as little as possible, switch things off etc. and monitor how much everything cost to run (eg: tumble dryer) previously I hadn't bothered at all. I am actually paying less in gas and electricity than I was before I moved here several years ago. I also have an energy monitor.

They say now that they don't use standing orders now.
They call it Direct Debit so they can change the amount when they see fit.

Trixie, they don't change my amount, I pay, monthly, for the exact amount I have used.
