Most windup watches have an advice slip with the watch reminding you when to wind the watch. I have two watches powered by a battery and two more watches both automatic one is a skeleton watch with a pendulum and the other has a tuning fork which in turn winds a small spring to keep the watch running for approx 12hrs if not worn.

used to be well of if you had a timex in the 70s and a casio in the 80s.

In the late 60's early 70's every one wanted a LCD /LED watch with the Black face and Green digital numbers. Now most people buy Analogue watches but some of the face dials are oversized.

I-Spy, I do know what ‘there’s no time like the present’ means really - my first watch was a gift from my Mum & Dad.
A Timex Mickey Mouse watch.

Remember the ad with a Timex strapped to a speedboat propeller, and when they stopped and tilted the prop out of the water it was still going. That was around 65 or 66 if my memory serves me right.
That led to a cruel joke about Donald Campbell and his crash on Lake Conniston.

Bought early learning watches for my sons,I think they were Timex. If I remember the face was split by colour red/blue and the dial had two sets of numbers.

I used to sell watches. Anyroadup, here's a watch story (I'll keep it short! ) .....
I was in a place in Walkden and I saw a watch in a thousand pieces on a table. "Bloody hell-fire"! I said to the lad who was working on it, "will that watch ever go again"?
"It certainly will", he replied, "I'm only servicing it".
"How much will this 'service' cost, then"?, I asked.
"Oh, around £600"! he replied.
"What"? says me, "you can buy a watch off Bolton market for £16"
"Yes, I know",says he, "and, d'you know what? That £16 watch will keep better time than this one and will never need servicing"!
Then he told me, "This watch would cost you over £42,000 in todays money"!
I could've dropped t'crab! £42,000 for a watch!?
Then he showed me some more that were over £130,000 !!!!!!! The World's gone mad! Mad, I tell you!

I bet it wouldn’t do his ticker much good if he lost a piece.

These men are professionals. If they 'lost' a piece, they could easily replace it. The place is unbelievably clean. There are £millions worth of watches there. The lad I spoke to was due to go over to Italy, to Bvlgari, to learn about a different movement, as the bloke he works for had just bought the Bvlgari company.
I ended up there through doing some work in a huge house, in Cheshire, for a director of Dior perfumes. They own that too.

Look up the cost of George Daniels watches. A watchmaker from Isle of Man. I can guarantee you haven't heard of him, his watches prices will stagger you.

Just looked it up on google. 2019 his last watch sold at over three and a half million.

Sorry, Tonker, I was just being daft, so deserved that ticking off.
His last watch sold at over £3.5 million
The buyer must move in very different circles to me, Anne.
It’s all mind boggling.

It's ridiculous, when you think about it. The bloke who 'owns' that place in Walkden has more money than Bill Gates. Like jo anne just said, them men are an exclusive section of society.
One story I got told is of a young Chinese lad going in one of their London outlets and paying a couple of hundred thousand £ for a watch for his wife, only to have it stolen from him just minutes after leaving the premises. He returned to the place and told them what had happened. When they offered to phone the police he refused. He simply shrugged his shoulders and chose another to replace it!

First watch I had was a Hop along Cassidy watch which had a blue strap, my Grandad bought it me for my forth birthday in 1957. I also got an early LED watch, it was a Bulova and had red figures, got that about 1972/3.
