RU World Cup – quarter finals – TheWigan influence

Started by: wigvet (3548)

So Shaun Edwards, as Welsh defence coach, has seen his team progress into the semi-finals of the World Cup

I just hope former Wigan scrum half Mike Ford, as English defence course, can do a similar job for England as they prepare to play France

Wales V England semi final hopefully with a couple of ex Wiganers hoping to outdo each other

Its not a patch on rugby league as a spectator sport but the RU do know how to organise a tournament, and our town keeps getting plugged down under in front of a world wide audience

All the stronger nations of the Southern Hemisphere in one side of the draw and all the weaker nations of the Northern Hemisphere in the other side.

Thus spoiling the chance of a Australia/New Zealand/South Africa Final. The best three nations in the competition.

Why?

Wales were unlucky to lose to SA and Ireland bet Australia pretty convincingly.

Please explain your confused thinking to me.

On England today..

Johnny Wilkinson playing on past glories..

Ball handling and passing shocking..

Leadership by Johnno..uninspiring..

Let's hope Wales can make the final

Meaning that the groups and the knockout stage should be like the football World Cup and not based on hemispheres.

Surely, you would agree?

Played a lot better in the 2nd half but still didn't deserve to go through. I quite enjoy International Rugby Union but the club games are not a patch on Rugby League in my opinion.

If Australia had been good enough to beat Ireland, they'd have won the group and been in Wales and Englands half of the draw..

You are right, but a bit strange that Australia should lose to Ireland and not top their group.

As a result, it ended up with two seperate hemisphere pathways, which I suspect the organisers wanted so that the final would not be between two nations from one hemisphere with nations from the southern hemisphere being the top three fancied nations.

Imagine what effect it would have on northern hemisphere rugby union if three of the semi finalists were from the southern hemisphere and the final was any two nations from Australia/New Zealand/South Africa.

But, of course you will not see it that way.

Yep,of course Australia threw that game,i guess it was in their interests to face SA in the quarters and NZ in the semis instead of Wales in the quarters and France in the semis..

Like i say, dafter by the day....

Did Australia play their best team?

And it's not about who play's who but about rugby union keeping the same level and interest by supporters in both hemispheres.

That's my opinion and I am entitled to say it without having you having a go at me just because you don't like anyone standing up to yourself.

A truly great win by the Wallabies today . Defended their line and never gave an inch to a good Sprinboks side. This game should have been the Final.
