Des Johnston's point in his defence before the meeting last night,

"Instead, he said Barrow were the victims of the RFL refusing to give the club a level playing field and that expenses paid to players for travelling and accommodation should have been subject to special dispensations.

“We have been after them (the RFL) for five years about the fairness of the competition, regarding a level playing field, when Gateshead, London Skolars, Harlequins, Scorpions, Celtic Crusaders, all get allowances and dispensations,” said Johnston.

“Yet we are further away than anybody. We get told Harlequins is in London, but that is two hours by train from Leeds and Barrow is more than three hours from Leeds because of the infrastructure.

“Not too long ago, we lost very narrowly to Celtic Crusaders and they had a team with illegal immigrants, all being paid thousands of pounds – how are we supposed to compete with that?”

He has got a point, don't you think!

he has indeed fossil but i have seen Des a few times at matches and he is the chairman from Hell ,but as you point out he has a point, sad when you think of some old barrow players like Willie Horne, Frank Castle and jimmy Lewthwaite ,ending up like this.

29 points is too much for a small club like Barrow and only penalises the players and supporters!

Could be a way by the RFL to try and get Barrow to get together with Whitehaven and Workington and form one bigger club for West Cumbria and the Super League.

You should know by now how the RFL think in regard to expansion of the Super League.

They might start to think different the way things are going on in that area.

Whitehaven were also deducted points last season and Workington Town are also struggling financially.

Look outside the top of rugby union and you will find it is not exactly a bed of roses there neither!

Professionalism has stopped progression to the top like Orrell did as a amateur club.

BB In 2000 Hull Sharks merged with Gateshead Thunder (supposedly) The Thunder disappeared completely Hull took all their best players and became Hull FC what a con that was. Then another Gateshead was reborn a few years later. They must have known what would happen.
