Ronnie Mather.

I am surprised that the death of the ex Wigan hooker has not been mentioned on here!
He played a lot of games for Wigan and worked for Warrington for a good while.
I think he worked in the pit in Leigh for a while ,a proper RL mon!

I used to know Ronnie quite well, he was a Fork Lift Driving instructor for the NCB at old Boston, Haydock.
I went on a weeks course with him, in about 1980, he spent more time talking about Rugby League than he did about the fork lift.
Top man!

Ronnie was one of my tutors when I was doing my fitting apprenticeship at Old Boston. He taught us Hydraulics.
I remember the first day he had us and was asking us our names. His eyes lit up when my mate told him he was Laurie McTigue, nephew of the great Brian.
I think he was scouting or had some connection with Warrington RLFC at the time.
He was a very good tutor and a very nice man.

I think you find that it is because he played between 1950 and 1957 and the majority of today's supporters do not go back that far.

The sad loss or Ronnie Mather, brings back a lot of happy memories of going down to Cental park in the 50s when Ronnie was the number 9. RIP.
