bug's dick under 14,000 , not bad a week before Wembley in the teeth of a recession.
There was a redundancy party of about 40 in the Royal Oak, poor sods.

kenny, i just don't get it, surely if they were "rugby mad" as a lot of them profess to be they should have been at the stadium to support their team, which without any doubt is the best team by a country mile.
Replied: 20th Aug 2011 at 11:18
A lot of people say they are Wigan Rugby fans as long as they are on the telly. I know several folk who have been rugby fans for donkeys years and yet never set foot in Central Park or the DW. I'll never forget the Manly game, about three hundred folk stood on the bridge to catch glimpses of the match for free. Having said that there where two Hot-Dog vans and an Ice-Cream van parked on the bridge to capitalise on the situation

Who said they were "rugby mad" just coz they watch it on telly, they might just have been shouting for their home town club
Replied: 20th Aug 2011 at 13:26
kenny, i know some of them personally, and they have stated the fact that they are rugby mad, but have never been to the dw stadium to watch them. i have seen them in the pubs with their replica shirts on watching the game on the telly, that's what i can't understand. if you ask them why they don't go, they say can't afford it, yet they will be drinking all night, must be cheaper to go and watch the rugby.

theres a few latics "supporters" on here like that
just under 14,000 on for a "minority sport" a week before wembley is good
some premiership teams dont get much more than that
Replied: 20th Aug 2011 at 15:13
Cheers Jay, gerrin there slowly but still a bit up and down.....Hope the Tics pick up three points...

well done to the might warriors again for making the sports people of wigan very happy and very proud

I agree to a point about fans not going to matches.Having said that, there are numerous reasons why they don't.Remember also these "armchair" fans and I must admit I'm one of them, still support their clubs of both codes by buying their merchandise etc.The people who go to the matches obviously prefer the thrill of live games and long may it continue.

I used to watch Wigan regularly at Central Park, season ticket holder for a few seasons, but since the move to JJB,it didnt have the "pull" it was nice,at the start a brand new stadium and all that, but I personally dont like th all seater stuff.....nothing to do with Tesco
Replied: 20th Aug 2011 at 15:35
Everybody to their own Kenny....the last live match I watched was also at Central Park.....never been to DW so can't comment on the atmosphere, but at Cental Park it always felt good and homely.....

walshy, if you think there was just under 14,000 last night you are deluded. nobody in the north stand, east stand half full, south stand maybe 4,000, west stand 4,500 tops, adds up to 11,500 to 12,000 no more.
Replied: 20th Aug 2011 at 17:45
still not bad
when you compare it to the 18,000 that was on latics when one of the best teams in the world, and are only 30mins away, played them
Replied: 20th Aug 2011 at 18:19
I was in the South Stand and estimated a crowd of between 13,000 and 14,000. East Stand approx 6,000. Can't fiddle crowds like they used to at CP due to electronic counters on the turnstiles

i agee with kenny about the all seating thing i used to go to wembley every year no matter who played, but stopped going when they made it all seater not the same atmosphere ,plus tha cawnt smook any moor
