Premiership Football!
Why hasn't it gripped the town? Considering how Football is the most watched sport on the planet and is never off Sky sports and the BBC, Why have the people of Wigan not taken to it? The Premier League is regarded by many as the best in the world and yet Wigan Athletic struggle to attract crowds drawn in by the towns Rugby team, even though that sport is hardly recognised outside Lancashire and Yorkshire. The Latics try their best with marketing, having the cheapest Season tickets and loads of special offers as well as thousands of freebies during the season. I wish I knew the answer because I would love the town to get behind the Latics but we'll just have to wait and see how the coming season goes. Hopefully if they can keep hold of Zog and add one or two top names to the squad the people of Wigan may give them one more chance. Here's hoping

Maybe because has most wiganers know about sport they are not prepared to PAY to watch closett faries kick a ball round a field under the disguise of entertaining football. The game has been spoiled by money men and most supporters know it and will not go to watch rubbish football. If supporters must waste £30-£50 per match they soon learn and say sod it .

16,000 tic fans support wigan not bad from were we were 10 years ago
Replied: 22nd Jul 2011 at 08:39
16000 fans attending matches not ALL WIGAN supporters, and before its said about RUGBY most away supporters sit in one stand and can be counted so once they are deducted from total number then remainder ARE WIGAN fans

How about the 11k GMR reckon turned up against Wakefield.
And 7,000 of those probably weren't from Wigan.

Ask any club chairman and he wants "bums on seats", irrespective of where they come from.If only proper Wiganers, scousers mancs brummies etc went to matches in most sports the soddin' grounds would be half empty. Is everybody in the 75000 crowd at OT a Manc. This argument about where supporters come from is now getting childish.....

I was just stating the FACT that most WiganRL fans are not from Wigan.Surprising how WiganRL fans seem to react so badly to this..

where do ANY supporters come from for anyone to come out with the above statement? Is this based on someone trolling throu the session ticket holders addresses or doing a straw pole outside the ground to say its FACT most Wigan RL supporters are not from WiganOf the estimated 81000 residents of Wigan(2010)how many support either rubgy/football or both and how many support other sports or dont support any sport and where do all the supporters of rugby/football come from

It was off the Wigan RL official website ppnw.
It described you as a 'regionally supported club' and then gave a breakdown of were your support is from...
Wigan Athletic on the other hand from surveys have one of the highest percentages of local support.
Next question!!

Sorry to disappoint but I aint been in no closet since I was locked in one at school for talking about the Wigan v Hunslet game at Wembley. Until the '85 classic with Hull it was always regarded as THE best ever final. That was roughly fifteen years before I started visiting Pneumonia Park on a regular basis so I suppose you would say that firstly I am a Wigan Rugby fan but that I am also a True Blue

Now you can please yourself whether or not you think I have been a Latics fan for over thirty years or not but I still consider myself as a Wigan Rugby fan first and foremost. Also I am looking forward to this afternoon's game more than I've ever anticipated a Latics match because you can 100% guarantee EXCITEMENT

Question? did either of you treat yourself to the Latics v Bury match which was played on either Good Friday or Easter Monday around 1985 and kicked off at 12 O'clock. I remember the early kick-off because quite a few of us used to go to the football and then go to the rugby. Two of the lads I was with said they would never go to the Latics again as they were so bored. The game ended 0-0 and as far as I can remember neither Goalie had a shot to stop, in fact the Ref said he nearly abandoned the game due to the noise of SNORING coming from the Phoenix Stand
