Drug bans - why the difference..
can anybody explain why Kolo Toure gets a six month ban when Paddy Kenny got nine months and in rugby league Gareth Hock got two years.

Because it was an accident that he took them... he says.

A six month ban which encompasses the summer months!
He’ll be back playing in September – wonder if he’s still on full pay?

Because Gareth was taking the columbian marching powder the ban was longer
No excuses ban all drug cheats

Because football will not accept the stricter rules on drugs like other sports.
Bans should all be the same in all sports.
It's a good job they don't test football players as they come out of some the lavish celebrity parties they attend, where the 'columbian marching powder' is apperently is plentifull.

Ispy,
Kolo Toure was using what was deemed as a specified substance!
The World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) defines a specified substance as one that is "more susceptible to a credible, non-doping explanation".
By taking a substance like that, the penalty could be anything from a warning to two years ban.

Tom,
He admitted he was taking cocaine for eight months

And he serve a proper ban for it unlike football players.
Some radically wrong when a player in one game can get a draconian punishment, while a player in another game can get a meagre punishment for the same offence.

Draconian punishment my backside, they should all be removed from sport the CHEATS!
Replied: 28th May 2011 at 19:10
Surely their only Cheating if they take performance enhancing drugs. Sniffing the Devils Dandruff is not cheating. Not that I condone it.

Copperhead,
Why is it not cheating to take a banned substance, please explain that?

People tend to forget how much these "stars" are role models for the younger generation. It is in no way setting a good example and to me,ANY kind of substance abuse should carry a stiff penalty.

bassman,
I agree and I have no time for any behaviour like that ,whatever the sport.
Replied: 28th May 2011 at 22:52
I agree completly but one thing is worse than getting caught cheating or making a mistake and that is "role models" avoiding tests so as not to be found out.
That is why the ban is greater for these types of cheats.

I wonder what would happen if any of the footballers were asthmatic? The inhalers would cause you to fail a drugs test.
Really? So there aren't any asthmatic footballers anywere in the world then? Get a grip lad.

Ruddy,
Because to my knowledge they have not taken any drugs.
No doubt you will ASSUME otherwise!

I never said any of them had. I ask if you would have said anything if it had been a Latic's player like you have against Hock.

Ruddy,

fossil why do you insist that taking recreational drugs is cheating. Illegal yes and I have no problem with a ban for those that are caught using them. But to my mind cheating is to seek an advantage over others by taking performance enhancing drugs banned by the relevant sporting authorities.
Let me once again reiterate I do not condone the use of illegal substances as I am well aware of the harmful effects these so called role models can have on our young people.

Copperhead
I don,t insist, the authorities banned substance list is made known to all athletes and if they take them either for performance enhancement or pleasure, they cheat on their sport and what they represent!!
Just my opinion!
