Team Players

Started by: erontquay (inactive)

Why are football teams made up of players who are foriegn to the town they are representing? Wigan included. Is it because there isnt enough home grown talent,or does it just mean win at all costs its all about money. Are there any born and bred wiganers on the latics team?

Not many Wigan born players in the prem or playing in the football league either, the reason being that they are not good enough!

Too many second rate foreign players in teams because they come cheap, but in reality are no better then many of our own good young kids who are not getting a chance. The same thing is happening in employment where foreigners are being employed instead of our own people because poor pay is a lot of money to them.

A few years ago, our teams were full of own grown British players and they still won trophies in Europe. Even the England team was better.

Foreign players yes, but like normal everyday life, it should only be the best ones!

It's called cheap labour and now even applies to our national game.

Your argument makes no sense as per usual really Daffy.

So you're arguing that there are English kids who are just as good has some foreign players in the premiership but they won't play because they would have to exist on premier league wages of 10k plus.

Please THINK before you post..

Jay are you saying that there isnt any young british players as good as some of the imported players?

I think that because someone plays for a remote country in Africa, South Amrica etc they are presumed to be good.Unfortunetly to their cost, it doesn't tend to work out that way, as the latics for one, have found out.

Instead of just sitting in the South Stand at Latic's games, get out and watch some amateur games at all age levels ranging from local leagues to non league football.

Lads who are just as good if not better then many of the foreign players who are getting contracts at many of the professional clubs.

Like everyday employment, even football now has foreign cheap labour.

And you have the cheek to say that I don't support my own country!

Please THINK about what you've posted here and i hope you have the intelligence to see what total and utter nonsense it is!!

I watch non league football for your info too!!

'Like everyday employment, even football now has foreign cheap labour.'

Ok i know you aren't bright enough to understand this so i'll explain.

Cheap foreign labour is when people are willing to work for less then the going rate paid for the job.The premiership in one if not the best paid league in the world!!The players are paid 10k and upwards. If there were good enough footballers to play for Latics from Wigan, they would have spotted and they'd be playing. To suggest otherwise is to say you are better at spotting talent then any scout or manager in the league.

AND you've probably deluded enough to believe that!

I see one of those cheap South American players Latics bought put united in the lead tonight and got a touch to provide the second

Trev,i'd give 100 per cent but it doesn't mean i'd be any good!!

Daffy seem to be arguing that cheap foreign labour is paying foreigners 10k plus while leaving players just has good playing non league football for 300 quid a week!!You seem to be arguing that some of these bloke on 300 quid would want more than 10k a week to play!!

He reckons all the premiership/championship managers are doing this!!

The mon is nuts..

Prem. managers and fans won't wait for local players to go through the system because they want instant success. They turn to these foreign players because they have maybe represented their country. In that country they may be good but when they try to play in the prem. they are often found lacking.Foss. is correct about V alencia but he did have a start at a lower club to get used to the prem, and as he says some are just not good enough.

I do not include Valencia in the players I am on about. My argument is that many of them that are here are no better then many of our own British lads.

The Latic's squad is full of them and look where they are in the Premiership.

Foreign players by all means, but only those who are good enough to play at oiur top lkevel

And for the record, jay1, I know a damm sight more about football then you do, having played the game and coached successfull youth teamsin my time.

Why do you think that Spain has two of the best club sides in the world and their National side are Europen and World Champions. It's simply because they put own game first and only get. the class players from other countries.

How would anyone know how any of these local players would perform in the Premier League if they haven't played there. I am not saying that there aren't any out there but we have all seen players (in all sports) that look great at a certain level but when they move up they can't hack it. The argument about cheap forign players just doesn't hold water when you look at the cash the overseas players are being paid. I would also imagine that overseas players have clauses in their contracts wherby their families are here, there are flights back to their homeland etc. which would make them even more expensive.

I think Daffy is getting upset..

You don't even know who i am,so why assume you know more than me.

I'd say you know a lot less if you actually believe your statment to be true.Do you know more than the Latics coaching staff or the coaching staff of nearly every team in the top two divisions? You seem to think you do.

Broady you are spot on,people look good at a certain level.Andy Liddell was a classic for Latics,he looked great at a lower lever but was never going to be a premiership player.

Neither are some of the foreign players in the current Latic's team but never mind they might sign one who is another Valencia who stood out for Ecuador in the 2006 World Cup. Actually, I could never understand why a big club like United did not sign him in the first place when anyone could see that he was a good player.

In the meantime, I will continue to fight the corner of our own players who unlike a few years ago are no longer getting the same chance in today's game.

By the way, if the Latics are relegated, will you still be supporting them or will it be another case of you jumping ship like you did with the Warriors when they became less successfull a few seasons ago.

Poor effort Daffy.

Valencia was at Villarreal, who loaned him to us.Our coaching staff improved him...

So you're still claiming that you are better at spotting talent than pro scouts/managers?

I've always watched WiganRL on odd occasions,i still do.

I am more inclined to believe that Whelan got him after seeing him in the World Cup.

As for the Latic's improving him, perhaps they need to do the same with some of the present lot.
