R.I.P. Bill, He was also named as one of Penrith Panthers all time greats in Australia. Still not got round to reading his book, Tries And Prayers.

A great, great player. Would have been phenomenal in the current game. R.I.P. and thank you.

The RoyaL oak in Standishgate was my local when i lived in Wigan from the middle 60s until 1970.
The Wigan players would come in on tuesday and thursday evening after training and have a game of doms . Bill with them sometimes as i recall .
I have good memories about the occasions .

I was there when he made his debut and was there when he got sent off for Runcorn for flattening Andy Goodway in the cup. He was a legend was Sash. He always got on the Hindley to Wigan bus for home matches at Ince Bar and used to come upstairs fag in mouth and scoff all our toffee we had just bought much to our delight. KING BILL, KING BILL ASHURST R.I.P. SASH.

I remember him playing football for Ince Parish when he was seventeen and scoring goals for fun.One of the most natural athletes I have ever seen.

Never forget him being sent off for flattening Brian Hogan with a tup, can still see his quiff flowing in the wind from the back of the Kop. RIP Sash.

I was at that match, rio. I think it was the floodlit final against St Helens around 1968. Both Ashurst and Hogan were sent off for fighting. I'm almost sure that Hogan (who was playing for Saints that night) was signed by Wigan soon after and served his suspension as a Wigan player! Bill Ashurst was one of the finest forwards ever to grace the Central Park pitch. I remember him kicking a goal from the half way line before he signed for Wigan. He was playing for Rose Bridge in the Ken Gee cup final. Rest in Peace, Sash.

The funeral service of Bill Ashurst which will be held at DW Stadium Tuesday 5th July 2022.
The service will commence at 12 noon at the south stand entrance of the stadium, followed by the wake again at DW Stadium upstairs 2nd floor

Great turn out today for Bill.had a good chat to Ray Ashby who's looking really well. Just hope Billy B is ok had to be taken outside after becoming ill during the service!

Rio Billy B was taken to hospital for a check-up and released home before midnight apparently

Great send off for Bill Ashurst – a two hour service – I did think that the ‘preacher’ Charles Hansen (aka Charlie Hale the comedian) over-did it on the ‘bible-bashing’ – we came to pay our respects to the person at rest and not to be converted

Great news that Billy B is fine and well. Was a great turn out for Sash and really nice to see a great many of the towns community clubs represented in paying their respects to the bigman.
