Would it be classed as a pitch invasion or a security breakdown.....As pitch invasions were banned in '91 with the fans, if caught, could be fined or jailed and sanctions taken against the club......It would be a pity if Utd was penalised because of the actions of a tiny minority...

I know we don't see eye to eye Tom when it comes to your beloved royal family and can only assume it must in someway be connected to that, so I will overlook it on this occasion.
But in future you really should be more measured before making such an outrageous scurrilous and libelous post.

The point they were trying to make will be lost in all the adverse publicity generated by their ill thought out actions. It was an opportunity missed. I wonder what the players sat on the team coaches thought about what was happening ?

avram glazer is selling a fraction of his shares which will net him $100+ with NOTHING going to the club . is it any wonder the fans reacted the way they did ? .

Replied: 3rd May 2021 at 11:09

Looking at this logically, I suspect that many of those involved were like many of the Liverpool fans (as it was claimed) who attacked the City coach. That is, local ne're do wells who have little or nothing to do with the club but saw an opportunity to get bevvied up with their mates and cause mayhem.

This can be seen by the relatively low percentage of green and yellow scarves (as opposed to gold) worn by the mob.

Still disgraceful scenes though and viewers around the world will simply assume that all the perpetrators will be trafford fans. As a result their reputation will be tarnished.

in the papers today ALL the blame goes to the glazers for causing this backlash in the 1st place . not many are blaming the fans exept the cynics ? . i cant definitely say that there will be NO tarnish on the club for this ,after all wot more could the club do ? . i was in the anfield rd end at liverpool in the 70s when liverpool fans came from the kop & threw darts into the crowd & 1 just missed me but landed in a guys head . was liverpool punished for that disgraceful episode ? , no they wernt , did it tarnish the club ? , no it did,nt .

MUST - the Manchester United Supporters Trust has today published the following open letter to Joel Glazer

"An Open Letter to Joel Glazer: the morning after the night before, and a way forward for all of us - Monday 3rd May
Dear Joel,
The Fans Forum wrote to you and your senior management team on Friday. We don’t know if you saw it, but after the events of yesterday we trust your attention is now fully focussed on the question of what happens next at Manchester United.
First things first, let’s be very clear that no-one wants what happened at Old Trafford yesterday to be a regular event. We are football fans and we want to support our team. We don’t want to spend our days off work protesting outside our football ground. But what happened was the culmination of sixteen years in which your family’s ownership of the club has driven us into debt and decline, and we have felt ever more sidelined and ignored. After sixteen years not one member of the Glazer family has ever had so much as a conversation with us, the club’s Supporters Trust. Yesterday, that frustration reached boiling point. For the vast majority of the thousands of attendees at the protest they made their voice heard peacefully and respectfully. We support the right of fans to protest lawfully and, although we did not personally witness any such acts, of course we do not condone any acts of violence.
None of us want this to continue. We all have better things to do. So we need to find a way forward, and we have a four point plan for you to do that:
1. Willingly and openly engage and promote the government initiated fan-led review of football and use this as an opportunity to rebalance the current ownership structure in the favour of supporters
2. Immediately appoint independent directors to the board whose sole purpose is to protect the interest of the club as a football club, not its shareholders
3. Work with the Manchester United Supporters Trust and supporters more broadly to put in place a share scheme that is accessible to all and that has shares with the same voting rights as those held by the Glazer family. Should the appetite be there amongst fans then you should welcome, and offer no opposition to, the Glazer Family shareholding being reduced to a minority or indeed being bought out altogether.
4. Commit to full consultation with season ticket holders on any significant changes to the future of our club, including the competitions we play in
We request a response to this 4 point plan, in public and in writing, by Friday.
This is the only way to move this issue on. We strongly suggest you take it.
MUST - the Manchester United Supporters Trust

MUST Statement on Fan Protests at Old Trafford - Sunday 2nd May
What we witnessed at Old Trafford today is the culmination of sixteen years since the Glazer family's acquisition of the club. Over that period, the owners have taken £1bn out of the club and we have witnessed decay and decline both on the field and off it.

Whilst the invasion of the stadium isn't something we expected, and it is rumoured a gate was opened for fans, but even if that is not the case we believe the vast majority of Manchester United staff are sympathetic with the views of the fans.

Supporters turned up on the day of a game they could not even attend, to peacefully protest and speak with one clear voice about the change that needs to happen at our club.

On the back of the indefensible ESL proposals, and an “apology” from the Glazers which we do not accept, we need to give fans a meaningful share in the ownership of United and a meaningful voice in how it is run.

The Government now need to act. That has to mean a process which results in fans having the opportunity to buy shares in their club and more to the point no single private shareholder holding a majority ownership of our football clubs which allows them to abuse that ownership.

The Government need to reflect the views of ordinary people who see that now is the time to reclaim the people's game.

I would much rather take his version of events than any other .
It was a very small minority who caused the trouble which you will always get on any protest irrespective of what is being protested .
I am proud to be a utd fan after hearing the true account .Will we see any kind of protest from the bertie fans ?..More chance of seeing Lord Lucan riding Shergar down Deansgate .
I watched the berties so called ambassador micah richards say on sky that he cant criticise sheikh mansour re his part in the aborted E S L fiasco .
Stomach churning dosnt begin to describe ,and before the berties start i opine the same re schmeichels comments about the protest.

And folk wonder why the fans are upset.

The scenes that were shown around the world seemed much more than a few hotheads. They were a disgrace. Some of those protesting were probably in nappies when the Glazers took over the club. What happens if the club gets a points deduction that takes them out of a European place? I feel your opinions are being clouded by the childlike squabbles that are on here every day.

I was following United a good quarter century before the Glazers even knew who they were and hope to be following them long after they have gone.
I haven't bought a pie, pint programme or even a Mars bar inside the ground for decades.
I ventured into the superstore once when it first opened without any intention of buying anything.
Hope that puts your mind at rest laughingboy.
But you not being a football fan just a professional rabble rouser on here I don't expect you to understand.

I mentioned how much money they owed and took out the club regularly and saying they only went after free transfers cos they were skint..you lot berated me for it, but funnily you are now on their backs 13 years after I started it...you should be thanking me not bullying..

EH. "Thanking" you?
The one and only reason you highlight anything concerning United is to try and score points or aim some sort of angst towards their supporters not for any benevolent reason.
We really are in trouble if we are relying on you to tell us what's happening down at OT.

I spoke to a friend of mine this morning,a season ticket holder at United for a very long time and his opinion was that all the so called supporters who illegally entered the ground 'Should be lined up and shot' (his actual words). Followed by his comments that the bobby should have given the chap on the ground a smack from him.
My opinion is that the Super league is not yet finished with ,and the only way to alter owners attitudes is to punish them by the genuine fans who go to matches withdrawing their support, making the clubs less of a productive cash cow. Having broken Premier league rules give them a swingeing points reduction, which will deter them from future similar ventures as monetary punishment will have no effect at all!
It is disappointing as a Wigan Athletic supporter that the difference in the levels of values of clubs are now dictated by Media cash to the top clubs, and a fairer distribution down the pyramid may make life easier to survive in the lower divisions, and avoid my club and others suffering as a result of the actions of dodgy owners.

I am very saddened at your comments on the recent riots at O/T you appear to be enjoying it and your comments about United . I feel they are utterly unwarranted, after all DON it is not the club's /or the player's or all the staff's fault is it??? I honestly believe it was a nasty small minority that are to blame not as you quote , i mean if one goes down that road well how about calling Liverpool over the bother at Heysel ,, you just cannot use things like that to slag teams off surely ,, I actually don't believe you are that type of a bloke .I do enjoy good banter but all this nastiness is not good for any one don't you agree??? Finally as i have said earlier i wish your team all the best in the CL final you team deserve's it and so doea BRITISH FOOTBALL so stay safe G.B.

Hi ( whups & Mr Grimshaw)
I posted as you may have seen to ( don gb ) and yet he has not had the decency to return my comments , i do praise people /thing's if deserved but he just slags off united with the other one i cannot understand why they can't accept what man united have achieved ???? SO back to united at last we have got thro to the final , the only dark cloud is because of the disruption of having the pool match cancelled it has alas put the team under a lot of unnecessary pressure now we are having to play all these games in such a short time , but anyway we will cope i have no doubt and would like to congratulate OLE and the squad for reaching the final , this would be a great season if things go to plan ie second in table then hopefully winning the trophy so come you mighty reds !!!!!

Sorry GB,

I've been busy at work, posted a quick (for me ) message on another thread and thought I would give the site a good trawl later.

I thought I was quite reasoned and factual about the OT riots. It was an embarrassment that was broadcast around the world. However, I alluded to the fact that most of them could be local ne'er do wells and not trafford fans at all.

I questioned and disagreed with LG 's use of the term "scumbag" and correctly stated that the MUST statement was self entitled nonsense and that the protestors are only disenchanted because trafford are no longer the top of the tree.

Do you really think that those riots would have taken place if this season trafford had won the League Cup, on course for a Premier League title and in the final of the Champions League?..........No, me neither.

BTW, I have, in the past, stated that trafford have been magnificent over the years and have done well to stay at the top of the tree for so long, but now it is someone else's turn to shine, and that someone else just happens to be City.

I hope those “loyal” fans are pleased with themselves. At a time when they already have a crowded playing schedule they have made it even worse. Well done.

Why should I mention it? Easier to let you keep prattling on about it. If he hadn’t been making a nuisance of himself and was sat at home in the armchair it wouldn’t have happened. However police actions like that are inexcusable and I presume action is being taken. Now there I hope you are happy.

me pratteling on about it . you,ve mentioned united fans at least half a dozen times . it seems that you want it one sided just to try & prove your point & turn a blind eye to the police involvment in this .

You talk utter tripe. Suggest you stick to checking missing dogs in DG. Your football knowledge is no different to anyone else. Maybe less. You were no doubt good on the oche but that's it.

i,m on about you . iv,e defended the fans & the club against these leeches called the glazers & all you have done as a "supposed united fan"is bleat on about crowd violence with united fans against the police . but when i mentioned that police violence was also being commited you ignored it as tho it was somewho "deserved" . if united fans are prosecuted then so shud the police . that video showing 3 cops beating up a unarmed man was shown on northwest tonight & thousands saw it .

Seems to me that some folk who post allegiance to utd on here are just masquerading and in truth are closet bertie fans .

Hi DON GB ;
Thank you for your reply, I have to state that i have never condoned what that small section of so-called fans did and never will. Because as a true fan it will cause the team a hell of a lot of heartache with the match being called off. They now have to play 3 games in 5 days which is not fair on the players. Another point DON is that i am also a wigan rugby league supporter and it reminds me what you said about team being at the top and now its some other teams time i do agree , for back then WIGAN rugby won everything for years and years and now its another teams time , just like united they have been outstanding from the start of the premier league ,but now it's MAN city's time and one should not begrudge them irrespective of the local rivalry , i know ia m an old fuddy duddy but what i would wish for football is to be like it was back in the 60 s when there was no agro with fans all went to the games and had good banter in the pub after I HOPE stay safe all G.B

GOLDEN BEAR,
I am in full agreement with the statement regarding many things you typed above.
What many people fail to see, it is the small few that are responsible for much negativeness and certainly not the majority.
Furthermore, I watched both Man Utd vs Roma games and United's performance differed greatly. Man Utd, in the first game, showed moments of greatness. But, they were awful in the second game and seemed to be half-asleep. I felt, Utd had decided, from the start of the game, that they already, as to say, had it in the bag. For me, only Cavani and de Gea saved them from, what could have been, an embarrassment.
But, I must say, the Arsenal game was more frustrating. Arsenal also seemed to be stuck in the wrong gear and hit everything except the thing that mattered: the back of the net. Villarreal didn't do very much and spent long moments of the game in defence.
Final score: 0:0 and Villarreal couldn't stop celebrating like a bunch of kids given total freedom in 'Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory'.
I was so hoping for another 'all England (Club) final'

Two excellent, reasoned posts above. Nice one GB and ianP

It's only too easy to take the bait and respond to childish jibes with our own childish retaliatory jibes. That is why I have three posters on ignore. That way I am not tempted to respond to any nonsense and negativity with equal nonsense and negativity.

Recent posts from GB, Broady, ianP, Diston and Frecky have been like a breath of fresh air.

I like Grim's posts, he can be scathing but I always feel that his tongue is usually in his cheek when he pokes to get a response.

GB, you are spot on with the WRLFC comparison. Every dog has his day, when City's good fortunes collapse (and they will), I will be more thankful for the glories of the past than disappointed with the impending tribulations of the future.

Thank you! Don GB.
It is perfectly true, especially in our 'Leagues' (soccer and rugby) that teams/clubs have glorious moments and disappointing moments. Some decades ago, Man Utd and WRLFC were unstoppable.
But! It is great that different teams have triumphant times. It would soon become boring if one team dominated and won everything - an issue which is in some countries. I remember watching the German national team play and it was almost the Bayern Munich team - I think, 9 of the 11 players were BM players.
On the topic of Germany and your words 'Every dog has his day', I saw Germany take Brasil to pieces in 2014 (7:1, if I remember correctly) and I saw Germany's miserable and extremely embarrassing performance in 2018. Germany still haven't built a strong team and they (Löw and co.) are working hard to get another World class team together.

On the topic of Manchester (the two teams and the city), it could soon be a glorious moment. If Utd can put a performance in like they did in the first game against Roma and City can perform at the high-level they are capable of, then there will be great rewards and I am not just talking about 'two trophies'. It should be a driving force for our national team and a worrying thought for the opposition.
Also, it should be a proud moment for all English football fans and an inspirational time for our national team and all concerned.
