I suppose that Liverpool fans will say that they have broken Liverpool's previous achievements if you start to argue the toss with them.

The points you have researched and referenced above show that their average only post lock-down results have actually seen them fall below what they looked likely to with 2/3rds of the season under their belts.

The headlines on the sports pages are lazy journalism and don't stand up to close scrutiny. Thanks for pointing it our Mr. 0 years.

Whilst on the subject of pre and post ask him to point out any of Citys stats pre lottery win or come to think of it Chelsea's for that matter.

I'll agree with one thing though 'lazy journalism'.
One ex footballer in his column in one paper today had City down has a team that had 'excelled' this season?
18 points off retaining their title, previous managers have been dismissed from there for less.

The top two would've gone had the season not been interupted ( but we'll never know will we), L,pool dropped 5pts in 29 games before lockdown and 10pts in 9 games after the resumption. Lockdown clearly knocked them out of their stride, didn't suit L,pool playing in empty stadiums. As for the most clean sheets i think you'll find Ray Clemence kept 28 clean sheets. Fewest goals conceded...L,pool did concede 16 in 78/79 but that was a 42 game season. After saying that the target was winning the league, records don't matter that much do they.

"The top two would've gone had the season not been interrupted"

Wrong, the season was interrupted for all teams not just Liverpool. They had already started on their bad run of form before the break.

"As for the most clean sheets i think you'll find Ray Clemence kept 28 clean sheets."

I think you'll find Ray Clemence never played in the Premier League.

"After saying that the target was winning the league, records don't matter that much do they."

They certainly mattered when Liverpool were in danger of breaking some........then all of a sudden they didn't matter. Funny that.

We'll put it another way...if city had pushed L,pool the way L,pool pushed city last year they would,ve gone. and talking of bad runs..they'd lost one and drew one in 29....shocking run of form. Also you never said just the premier league, and i thought only utd fans thought football started in the 90s.

So you are taking credit for City winning the league last season now then?

In that case why aren't you taking credit for City winning it the season before on a STILL RECORD 100 POINTS when Liverpool finished 25 points behind them?

Liverpool had already started to go downhill in all competitions, not just the Premier League, before the break.

The Premier League clue was in the years mentioned, between 2004 and 2020.

Finally, I take exception to the utd reference, everyone knows that football started in 2011.

0 years, your spot on about liverpool and the bad run they were on, athletico beat them twice and villa and a few drawn games, I don't think city would have caught them but they would have closed the gap closer, any team winning anything this season has to have a asterisk aagainst it as nobody can say what the real outcome would have been in any comp.

I don't know about Hurricane but I think you are blowing hot air.

Are you telling me that Liverpool were not mathematically able to be caught in March?

They were teetering on the brink by March and just one Steven Gerrard-esque slip from disaster, the lock down saved them.

No Chatty, what i'm saying is L,pool were on 82 pts before lockdown in March, Man city have only finished with 81 pts....so like i say...it was won in March.

Your logic is flawed and incorrect Hurricane. Liverpool (and everyone else) weren't to know in March that City would only finish on 81 points. As a result the League was not won in March, it was won shortly after the restart once it wasn't possible for City to overtake Liverpool mathematically.

It's easier to look back now and highlight the finishing points totals.
But the results of one team can have an effect on the determination and motivation of a team chasing them.
Say the break hadn't come in March and Liverpool had dropped points /losts games in say their next four matches (who knows?) that got cancelled, City would have been smelling blood and would have certainly finished with a higher points total.
They will also say once the league had been won they took their foot off the gas ( hence finishing with 81 points) and started to look at putting all their efforts into winning the Champs League.
Good grief I can't believe i'm actually making a case for City concerning anything. Having said that though it shows you who our true rivals are.

Not like you 0 Years to be so pedantic, but if Liverpool had 82 points in March they had enough points in hindsight to have already won it as Citeh only managed 81 eventually. Granted, your defeat at Chelsea confirmed that Liverpool won the league with 7 games to spare in June.
A record I believe. Disappointed in your Man Ure type attitude.

Yes but trophies aren't given out for hindsight they are given out for facts and results, and the fact is that in March the results did not say that they had won the league at that point. It isn't pedantry, it's factual.

Liverpool won it fair and square and congratulations to a great team, I work with a Liverpool fan and I was very pleased for him, but a false claim must be corrected. Plus, I haven't yet met a united fan who denies that Liverpool deserved the title, they might not like it but facts are facts and the fact is that Liverpool nosedived in form before the break and crawled over the line after it.

If Liverpool did set the tenuous "record" you state, it is straw grasping at the very least and sparse reward for the amount of records they were predicted to set. Possibly a record for chicken counting would have been more apt.

Finally, you referred to City as "Citeh", I'm disappointed in your "Man Ure type attitude".

You are correct 0 Years, I apologise for the Citeh comment, it was very Man Ure of me.
I would like to correct you on the tenuous reference ie very weak or slight record to win the Premier League with 7 games left. After 30 years wait, i would have took a final day winner ala the WBA goal at Leeds Utd many, many moons ago when Leeds threatened to walk off.
The Premier League has had some magnificent champions since its inception, the Arsenal unbeatables, the Chelsea team that Jose won their first title and Citys centurions to name three. None won the league with 7 games left or won 26 of their first 27 games. You may reply that this only indicates a poor PL, but many of those wins were hard fought one goals wins like Norwich away, a record is a record none the less. Yours in sport.

Biggest lead at the top
Liverpool have had a 25-point lead this season, the biggest ever in English top-flight history.

Most home wins in a row
Liverpool's 3-2 victory over West Ham United on 24 February was their 21st consecutive Premier League home win, beating Man City's record of 20, achieved between 2011 and 2012.

They went on to extend this record to 24 with wins over AFC Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa at Anfield.

Earliest title win
By claiming the title with seven matches to spare Liverpool beat the mark set of becoming champions with five matches remaining, set by Manchester United in 2000/01, and Man City in 2017/18.

Most points won over 38 matches
With their 1-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on 11 January, Liverpool set a record of 104 points from 38 Premier League matches, beating the 102 achieved by Manchester City and Chelsea, ending in 2018 and 2005 respectively.

Liverpool extended their record to 110 points from 38 matches (W36 D2 L0) after beating West Ham United 3-2 in February.

Fastest to 30 wins
The 3-1 victory at Brighton & Hove Albion on 8 July was the Reds' 30th this season, and they achieved that mark in a Premier League record of 34 matches.

Best start ever
When Liverpool reached 61 points from their opening 21 matches, it was the most a team had ever accumulated at that stage in any of Europe's top five leagues.

They went on to extend their record, winning their following six fixtures to rack up 79 points from their first 27 matches before losing at Watford.

Most home wins in a season
Liverpool's 5-3 victory over Chelsea means they joined the Blues, Man Utd and Man City in winning 18 home matches in a Premier League season.

Most victories in a season
With the 3-1 victory in their final match at Newcastle United Liverpool equalled the 32 victories claimed by Man City in 2017/18 and in 2018/19.

Not taking it away from Liverpool Verlaine, they have had a great season and been head and shoulders above the rest until just before the break.

Not proper record breaking (as underlined by your recent post), and not as good as it could have been, or as it was predicted to have been, but half decent never the less by their own recent standards.

It won't be remembered as a record breaking season or go down in history because of the asterisk, but a decent achievement for their first title in an incredible THIRTY years.

Well done anyway, they did their best,

Did liverpool get any extra trophies for these so called records, a season is 38 games long, no matter how good you are in the first half of the season , everybody knows that liverpool blow out after xmas, they have done it in previous seasons, klopp has them running around like headless chickens and they burn out after xmas, liverpool were also helped by United, Chelsea, and arsenal all rebuilding after 20 years at the top, also city did not perform like they could so the door was open for any consistant team, just like Leicester a few seasons ago,

Thanks 0 Years, mutual resprect. I don't think it was ever about breaking multiple records for the majority of LFC fans certainly not in August, just to win the league after so long, with a team of Citys prowess (100pts and 98 pts last two seasons) to compete against was such a daunting prospect after acheiving 97 pts.

The stats dictated the possibility of immortality, but the squad isnt at Citys level. Nice speaking

Sorry for the late reply Verlaine, I have been away for the weekend and off grid.

Good point, well made.

As I have previously said, if City do in fact win the corrupt european knock out trophy it will be nice (with or without asterisk).

However, it will be a poor second to the Premier League which Liverpool have so valiantly won, (with or without asterisk).

England won the Rugby Union World Cup despite the most biased officiating I have ever seen by South African referee Andre Watson.

In the end even his one sided decision making wasn't enough the deprive England of the trophy.

For the sake of all right minded football fans I hope that City succeed or fail based on their capabilities and not to save UEFA from having even more egg on their faces.

Does anyone really believe they would go as far as nobbling City to stop them winning it?
They may have people there with their snouts in the trough like you get in most organisations were money and power is abound but if any club really thought they would go to those lengths they should snub the competition to start with!!!
