Ideally they need to continue their fine post lock-down form to push themselves 12+ points ahead of the bottom three, thus keeping themselves in the Championship as a spur to potential buyers.
Whether or not they have had their spirits broken by off-field events remains to be seen. I hope not.

Can anybody confirm what the points deduction procedure is?
It said on the radio yesterday 12 points will be deducted at the end of this season if they finish outside the relegation spots (which could then relegate them) or if they finished in a relegation spot by matter of course it would be deducted at the start of next season.
But today they said 12 points would only be deducted at the start of next season whichever division they was in?

Either way the due diligence done by the new buyers the other week must have been none existent.

My reading of the situation is that its minus 12 points at the start of next season irrespective of what league they are in..

Cheers grimshaw, that 's a lot less of a slap in the face for the players who've done tremendously well to pull away from the relegation zone!

No bother chatty .
According to an article in the Mirror today the latics situation is merely the tip of the iceberg and that some clubs in lower divisions may not survive including at least one championship club .
It also says £10 million is the starting price to buy the club .
Would that be a fair price i wonder .?

Hi Chatty/Grimshaw the 12 points deduction will come this season if latics finish outside the drop zone but next season if they finish in the relegation places at the end of this season

Thanks bluesfan.

Its a six and two threes then eh.

Something stinks heavens high about what is happening .
According to reports a betting syndicate in the far east placed bets on latics being relegated .
Perhaps the same syndicate who sabotaged the floodlights at half time at one P L game to ensure the bet they had placed was a winner .

your right grim . something stinks about this deal . if it,s found out that latics have been used for a betting scam then they shud,nt be docked any points whatsoever & the culprits be took to court & jailed .

Be good if the Wigan Warriors buy the latics, that way the latics can get some of the older retired tough Rugby League players, to beef up there footie bally team.
If they do latics can be up there with the best footie bally players in the world

It's not Wigan Warriors it's a consortium led by Leneghan and others to bring both clubs under one umbrella. Both clubs would keep their own training grounds etc. Fat Mick I think you'll find Wigan Athletic have had enough ex players who could handle themselves. Oh and it's Football by the way

Looks like the Warriors could be the saviour of the 2013 FA cup winners.

Bluesfan has got it spot on. Ian Lenegan is heading up a consortium that if it passes all the fit to run, due diligence phases, ( like the last lot did !! ), will buy Wigan Athletic lock, stock and barrel, to be run as a separate entity. They could for instance, call it Wigan Professional Sports Consortium or something similar. The outcome, we get two local teams playing different sports, overseen by local people for the enjoyment of local people. What's not to like ? The 12 points come off ( if upheld ) this season if we stay in the Championship, which I think we will, or next season, if we are bottom 3 and relegated.

With regards to Wigan Athletic do i take that looking at the table now if that were the final p osition Wigan will start n the championship with a minus 12 points ? Not being a actual supporter i truly wish for them to stay up has it is a honour for the whole town ,so come lads put everything into these last 3 games ,finally i think its a splendid idea that Wigan Warriors could help out it does make sense and i would hope it would stop this bitter hatred between both sets of alleged fans . bye for now stay safe everyone.

It's a disgrace what has happened at Latics, they seem to have been used by third parties for their own ends. It certainly needs investigating. City have been lucky with their foreign investor but a club desperate for an influx of cash is always vulnerable to those with nothing but self interest on their agenda.

I like Bluesfan's idea of a Wigan sporting club with football, rugby, basketball teams etc, not ambitious to the point of over stretching group resources in search for glory, but with an agenda of top quartile success in their individual sports whilst promoting the town.

Yes great win for Latics hope they stay up!
I do find it amazing though that the bloke who "used to have a season ticket" to watch them hasn't commented once on their present plight or tremendous run.
And it can't be because he's "unwell" (up for debate that one is) having seen plenty of post's off him concerning another team on these boards.
All rather strange especially when he used to call other people glory hunters!

Show him a bandwagon and on he pops .
If he can drag himself away from trawling the web in pursuit of his obsession with utd .

Well done Latics. I hope that you can keep your nerve and retain your place in the Championship.
I would imagine that the club is a much more saleable asset if it retains its league status and wonder if potential suitors are keeping their powder dry until the uncertainty ends.
Good luck!

Great game. Could have easily been 11, hit the post twice and their keeper was busy. Movement off the ball the best for ages. Cookie has got them playing well at the crucial moment. I think they'll get 4 points from the remaining 2 games and stay up. Not heard much from the sale, as you say, keeping their powder dry.
