we use to go to the rugby club regularly it was great.i loved copper kettle.in fact i still have a record of theirs.sad or what

The ex bass player in Copper Kettle John Lewis is still going strong. He is playing bass for us. He also plays in another band named The Outlaws

If I remember correctly Memphis Slim played a gig at the old students union club just off Coppull Lane. The building was the old Swinley labour club, houses are built there now.

What was the name of the room at the back? it was away from the main dance and bar area.

Good old days, i used to work there when john martin was in charge, coach parties come from all over the north west and even further, people still talk about the riverside and what good times they had there.

I have that record as well 'Thinking just of you' - 'Busker boy'. Kettle and Cottage were great wern't they. Those were the days! Jimmy Dyke , singer from Kettle, is my husband so I'm a bit biased

Some of the best years of my life were spent in there every friday n sat night, fantastic days wish I could turn the clock back!

Riverside was the place to be, we aint got nowhere now in comparison to riverside, all bars on king street is where everyone makes to these days.

we did our courting in their brilliant nights we used to have .. does any one remember the compere be for john martin ..i have asked this question be for i can remember he had blond hair and i think he wore dark glasses can not remember his name for any thing ..

Lived in Hilton Street for a short period, every week people bonking up the backs when they came out the club, vomit all down the street, John Martin turning up in his Big Bently with a peroxide tart on his arm, Yeah real class that place, why did they not replicate it at th DW stadium

Worked at NatWest in the 70s. We were given comps every week. Used to have some great turns on. Bernard Manning was a regular. Also saw Roy Chubby Brown, Lyn Paul, Wayne Fontana. It was the last Cabaret Club in town. Nothing like it anymore. Like someone said, young people just want to get wasted on King Street today!

Used to go when the suited and bejewelled little guy was on the door. There was some young guy (a relation of Russ Winstanley?), used to stand over the 3-deck disco turntables on stage and order a coke over the mic. Played Northern Soul as I remember.

Does anyone remember Harley Collins banging a tray over his head to "Whiplash" at the Wednesday Night Disco?
Think one of the DJ's was Malc McGuire and there was also Stax Disco, although it is about forty years ago

memories of great nights at the club dancing on the chairs and falling off lol

There used to be a glassman called Ronnie who used to work at Leyland Motors and was a big Latics fan, cant remember his surname though.
Good times on sunny Sunday lunch then up to Haigh Hall for a swim in the canal.
Remember seeing the Real Thing there, not sure what year though.

I remember seeing The Real Thing at the hall when I came home to Wigan ,they used have a disco on the front step of the hall on Sundays, 1976 I think it was hot.

I can remember them turning up in an orange Ford Granada PEK 1 L Tommy Ratcliffe bounced the ball we were kicking against the side of the car, as you say it was hot hot hot.

i mostly recall the folk night, mainly Mikr Hsrding, if I was on a late shift we would ring and let them know, they always let us in. Can't remember if we saw the Oldham Tinkers there or not or if I only saw them in the upstairs rooms of the pub around the corner - always a full house at both venues.

Davey, I remember walking up to the hall through the Plantations hearing the music all the way, Silly Love Songs by Paul McCartney and Wings always takes me back to 76, oh and Young Hearts Run Free by Candi Staton was another, great days.
