Thomas Taylor/ Bond Worth carpets

I would like to know are there any WW out there who worked at the factories Thomas Taylor and Bond Worth carpet factory off Miry Lane ,Wigan i worked in the Latex and foam department between 1966 thro to it closing my name is Alan Winstanley , our favourite haunt on 2-10 shift was THE NEW STARR INN on corner of Miry lane ,it used to take us about 3 minutes to make from latex to pub and John & Kath had quite afew pints already on the bar waiting for us in the summer months great time happy memories hope to ear from some one .

I thought that place was called Rivington Carpets

Correct it was first Thomas Taylors Then Rivington Carpets ,then Bond Worth worked there many a year had some very good work mates and countless hours in pub on the corner of miry lane ( THE STAR INN) KATH& JOHN were the host's a good couple happy days sadly gone .G.B.

Golden Bear did you know Joe Barton , i also frequented the star as i worked at the nearby bus garage , but i knew Joe Barton years before

Hi the only Bartons i came across were Fred Barton ( father ) his two sons
Brian Barton and Derek Barton they all worked at the carpet factory and has i said prior THE NEW STAR INN was our watering hole , on 2-10 shift in the summer we would have a shandy before then at 10.00pm the landlord usually had quite a few pints lined up ready for us when we had clocked off !!! Then on 6-2 shift we would do similar after 2.00pm as i said it was our hang out great and fond memories .

Yeah G,B it was a good boozer Cath and John Hewitt
had it as you say , i think they moved Pemberton way to the White Lion and a chap named Martin took over , he was followed by Jimmy ( jonty ) Johnson . Joe Barton was nicknamed shashoni in the star as he had long straight black hair and a gliding eye

I knew a Joe Barton who fits that description.
Did he used to go in St Thomas's club and the Stork pub in Marsh Green in the 1970's / 80's?

cheshirecat , yeah that's him sadly he died , maybe ten years ago now , he was on the door at st thomas's signing folk in, theres a plaque in the games room over the bar that reads simply , in memory of Joe Barton doormon .

HI there Heatons 68 ,, Sorry for not getting back sooner yes you are correct they are the friend s iv'e been trying ages to contact i must know you for if what you say right i must have been drinking with you for i was always with Brian & Derek they di not have a car i had an ford pop and we would go golfing all over southport/bolton/ and stacks more but my fondest moments were we used to go all over the place watching wigan rugby we would meet in the (PINGY) UP Manchester rd 10/11 in morning down several then onto morris st club then old labour club just outside the ground also at half -time we used to nip out for a swift half back in again at 4.30 when match finished thats how i became a bit of a piss head i suppose but were great time s to say i was joined at the hip with Brian is putting it mildly are they still alive ??? i think brian moved up hindley greeen area i think not sure dont know what happened to Derek i did know fred passed he was a fantastic character if you want a better talk i will give you my e-mail address if you want my initials if it helps is A.W. G.B hello there , not heard where Brian and Derek got to , the white Lion was at the side of whwat would have been Pem caravans , John and Cath from the star ran it although more Cath as John was coach driving as well , I started going in the star in 1971 through working at nearby ribble garage . A few names i remember from the time are : Sid Wilkinson ,
Derek Bromlow , Dennis Delaney , Geaorge taylor , Henry Gormley , David Wilkinson , Derek Gormley , Leo, all seem to gather round that roaring coal fire in winter , as the pub opened at 5.30 after work .
