The atmosphere was truly fantastic...

We were down to modest numbers last night presumably caused by post-festive blues and winter storms, but what seems to be happening everytime we meet up that it quickly turns into one 'ell of a party...

Lankykats is only happening because it is wanted by people like you... we're here to stay baby...

Thanks for asking and for your kind words of support mswigan

Lankykats Do Morcambe Sun 18 March

As all Lankykats will know, all the shows are put on voluntarily by musicians and bands.. It is therefore, that a set of circumstances beyond the organisers control will mean that this proposed shindig will otherwise still take place but unfortuately without the previously advertised line-up of acts.
The entire evening has been re-arranged to celebrate instead a leaving do... Gary and his family will be moving shortly to new licenced premises located on the sea-front and welcome's all his friends and aquaintences to drop-in, share and say goodbye at their very last musical evening at The Park Hotel, Morcambe
We would therefore like to thank Gary and his family for such great support of Lankykats - especially in the early days - and that we all look forward to playing at their new venue soon. On behalf of all Lankykats we wish you all the success and happiness in the world with your new venture..

LANKYKATS AT THE CAVERN CLUB

A recent rock ‘n roll phenomenon that has taken the north-west by storm is set to make musical history and to take the stage in Liverpool’s world famous Cavern Club – the venue made famous by The Beatles.

On Sunday 17 June, Lankykats - the musicians and supporters who meet regularly in the heart of Lancashire at The Standish Unity Club - will make a Merseyside pilgrimage to play a very special concert for many local worthy and charitable causes.

Bill Hart – Lankykats founder, who has organised the event said, “this is possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity for many Lancastrian musicians to perform at the most famous rock ‘n roll venue in the world. Some of us played there back in the sixties before Mersey Sound became synonymous with the extraordinary beat being played by the many groups who played there at the time. But many musicians never got the chance. Only a relative handful walked down those famous steps and into the dark cellar and played to rapturous young audiences in those days. For other Lankykats, taking the show on the road down abd the east Lancashire Road in this way, means they will fulfill a life-long dream by playing their favorite songs and helping to raise funds for charity at the same time.”

Six bands getting ready to rock 'n roll are:-

The Original Rock 'n Roll Band

The Bluenotes

Tex & The Hardcore Troubadours
with special guest Wayne Grove

Tom - Dick 'n Harry

Jammykats

The Bedrox

The Cavern Club events organiser Jon Keats added, “we will always welcome special events of this kind at the Cavern, Lankykats deserve to be rewarded in some way which recognises all the hard, unpaid work which goes into their fund raising events for charities. We here have provided all the sound equipment, amplifiers and drum kit, so all the musicians have to do is turn up with their guitars and drum sticks and play. A sound engineer will provide full sound control throughout the concert.”

Lankykats at the Cavern Club will commence at 2: 00pm till 6: 00 with a £1 admission – including the musicians – to the Cavern Club Lounge. Entry to other areas is free on the afternoon with a fully staffed bar and plenty of opportunities to wonder down Mathew Street, visit the Cavern Pub and make purchases from the well-stocked Cavern souvenirs shop.

“We have a couple a openings for other bands and unattached individuals,” says Bill. “They might consider turning up on spec’ and performing for just one song or even a few – Just give me a ring to discuss the details. Then maybe you too will be able to one day proudly say, ‘I’ve played at The Cavern Club too.’”

Lankykats and Singles

Many single's are on their own - through no fault of their own! More and more are coming to Lankykats because they are made very welcome as they don't have to sit alone... If perchance I see some one who has made the almighty effort to enter the Unity Club alone - then I will ask if they want company and will then seat them appropriately. I'm looking to all Lankykats from now on to be 'Single-Sensitive' - I know all about singledom - as I was once 17 years on my own - Bill Hart

A 2013 Open LANKYKATS Message..
With particular regards to Lankykats £1 door charge for everybody inc' musicians.. and what it's used for!

Volunteer musicians have the convenience and use of all the sound equipment, drums and back-line amps being provided without the need to lug about their own stuff, set-up, play, breakdown and get home at 2:00pm in the morning. In addition, the stage is set for you by Lankykats together with a professional sound engineer who will endeavor to meet all your individual musical needs. The sound equipment has to be paid for and maintained. We have spent £5000+ so far with more newer top quality equipment in the offing. After the show, Lankykats volunteers take down and store the equipment ready for next time. All electrically powered equipment is PAT tested and full Lankykats Public Liability Insurance up to £2.000,000 is included.

It is largely understood that Lankykats is a new and unique concept to many people as it was to me only three years ago. We now have superb facilities at The Standish Unity Club with it's location in the heart of Central Lancashire and close to Motorway's M6 and M61. The M55 and M65 at Preston are just 20 minutes away.

When bands volunteer to play at Lankykats you have a showcase to promote your band, a rock 'n roll leisure and hobby facility for guys and gals who no longer want 'proper' gigs and want a easy way of having a simple 'knock', a means of charity fund raising, a place where you can see and/or play live music on a regular basis and also meet other bands/muso's and make new friends and it costs just a £1 - and you can choose to play or not - as the case suits! And we can boast to having the most, friendly, discerning and appreciative audience you ever wish to meet. There are well over 100 people now regular attending Thursdays Lankykats nights with musical tastes of all varieties of the rock 'n roll kind from all ages, styles and genre's.

There is a small Charity Group of Lankykats who meet regularly to make decisions regarding fund raising events for mainly local charities and worthy causes and they sell raffle tickets to raise further funding. We take Lankykats shows on the road too.. including the annual pilgrimage the The World Famous Cavern Club, Liverpool.

So, if your band has somewhere to play and can get paid for doing it then fab... Good luck to you all. Lankykats doesn't and can't pretend to suit everybody and I hope that reading this will understand what Lankykats is all about.. and please remember - no-one gets paid a penny at Lankykats!
A happy New Year 2013 and beat wishes to you all.

Bill

THE WHR LANKY BEAT SHOW
2nd Series 2:3 - The Cheetahs

The Cheetahs from Widnes turned up to audition at the Wigan Empress Hall one cold and murky November night in 1963. They were part of a show where local band The Beat Boys were a well known and major rock 'n roll attraction. However, another band, unknown in these northern parts, had travelled from their base in west London to top the bill. They were called The Rolling Stones. 50 Years on John Turner and Ray Jones remenisce with host Bill Hart.
