Searching Australia for Albert

My husband is looking for a very old friend from the 60's who emigrated to Australia. His name is Albert Wilson, will be about 58 and used to live in Bell Lane, Kitt Green, Wigan/ His fathers name was Harry and he had a sister named June who was about 3years older. Albert went to Abraham Guest High School and left to work in a shop in Wigan. We don't even have a state in Australia to give!!! Here's Hoping!!!!

While waiting here in the hospital waiting room, I wandered through wiganworld and was surprised with two connections you mentioned...kittgreen and abraham guest school.
I lived in kittgreen for many years and went to abraham guest school from 1960-62.

yes I remember those teachers and been trying ta remember a few more name...
Mr Davis...Mrs Sixsmith...Mrs Statter...Mr Yates...Mr Crookston. I beleive Mrs Jones used ta be called Miss Aikin or something like that before marrying Mr Jones.
The old place certainly expanded a lot since I was there many years ago...I missed the 25 year reunion
When I moved up from Lamberhead Green school to Abram Guest I thought it was wonderful going to a brand new school.

Even remember the old school motto...'FIAT LUX' "let there be light"

Hi again Britboy, Yes, I remember those teachers as well Mrs. Jones(Miss Aitken) lives quite near my Mum and Dad in Orrell, but sadly Mr. Jones died about 5years ago. Do you remember Mrs. Bizbrown and Mr. Woods, Mr Fazackerly(no games for a month) Mr. Maganall(P.E. and geog. and Mrs. Pennington the formidable
school secretary? When I moved from L.H.G School I remember thinking what a big school AG was But like you say, nothing like the size of it now. All my children and 1 Granchild has attend it but it is now where near a good as I was. The teachers were more caring and approachable then. By the way I used to live in Bell Lane in Kitt Green. Do you remember any of the shops? like mrs Stevens(drapery) Mr. Blackham(news) and Miss Cobley(general store) and the old Co-op these are all now ordinary housing!!! Ah! the Memories.

Greyhound, I don@t think it was the same Mr. Jones, as for all the time I knew him, he lived in Orrell. His first name was Robert and he had a stronge welsh accent.

Spent many years in kittgreen up to getting married and moving away (my first wife).
As a kid I used to have a paper round and worked for Mr.Blackham.
The old Co-op brings back many childhood memories in particular when it was divi day and my mother used to collect her divi once a year
When there was open fields between Peter St and Bell Lane, plenty a room to play.
Going down to porters wood climbing amongst the trees...don't think its as safe for kids these days to go out on their own playing in the woods...sign of the times no doubt.
Some great childhood memories though....simpler times.

Dear Britboy, I JUST CAN,T BELEive IT! You are all those miles away and we must have spent quite a time living quite close to on another. I to did a paper round for the same shop. I played many, many, times on the fields at Peter St. We used to call it on the farm, as there used to be a farm owned by the Barton family and it also had a small pond. Many a time I paddled in Barton's pond. Yes , I used to go down Porters wood as well, do you remember the big rope swing and the little wooden bridge nearby? We had a samll "gang" (NOT like the gangs today) and used to call ourselves the Pennington House gang as one of our friends lived in Pennington House. Do you remember a small fair coming on Peter St. fields? I once got throw off the cock and hens trying to hold a friend of mine on, she stayed on, I fell off!!!!!

I have quite enjoyed recalling my memories especially about kittgreen in my childhood...perhaps it would be a good subject in the general section of wiganworld....I'm sure it has been a subject before but interesting all the same....as a passing thought...I can still recall the street gaslight on city road same side as the new new inn being lit at night by a small man riding around the local streets on his bycycle lighting the lights with a long pole...a very distant memory. (now I am showing my age!!!LOL) and yes I recall very well the fair on the fields at the back of Peter St....great childhood fun

Britboy, We must be around the same age, as can remember visiting my Gran's. She used to have a gas light almost outside her house, her lamp lighters name was Billy.!
