Lynch family of Wallgate

Hi all. I am trying to find out more about the Lynch family from Wallgate. My great nan and grandad were called Rebecca and Thomas Lynch. I noticed on the Wallgate thread that 1934granada mentioned a William Lynch. I think this could be my great uncle. Would be lovely to hear from anyone who new them.

Hello Kaths,as a child I knew a Helen Lynch,she lived at the top of Great George Street where I grew up,she was older than me,and I think she went to Australia,apart from that I can't help you much more,but I'm sure someone will have more info,all the best with your search.

Hi again mojim. Just spoken to a family member and she said it could could be mary-ellen that got called helen. She was married to another of my great uncles who was called joe. Apparently her family came from that area of wallgate. Could this be that same one do you think?

Hello kath,all I do remember is that they lived at the very top of the street,next door to my grandmas,{we lived a few houses down},I also remember a Derek Lynch who I'm almost sure lived in the next street which I'm sure was called Pitt Street,and either Helens or Dereks mum cleaned the old Police Station that was facing the Parish Church park she was a tall,well built lady,hope this is of some help to you.

Thank you again mojim for the information. It is much appreciated. The lady i mentioned (Mary-ellen) was only Lynch by marrage. She was married to my great uncle Joe.

Hi 1934 granada. Sorry we don't know how old he would be but his wife was called Agnes and they had sons Billy, Tommy and Jimmy and also a daughter who we don't know her name. I've been told that his daughter may have been brought up by another family member. It was his sister Mary that was my grandmother.

Hi marieg69. Yes, they did live in Higher Ince, but we don't know where abouts.

i think it was one of the streets off manchester rd.might have been albert st.i worked at the same factory as billy in rochedale he married a girl named margaret alker from beech hill

iknew them but mostly billy with working in the factory he had a bad limp think he must have had polio

Your quite correct marie69. Kaths21 it is the same family. Jimmy went to live in Doncaster and Tommy and William settled in Wigan. They did have a sister named Mary. Tommy and Jimmy have sadly passed away but William is still alive although he has had health problems the last couple of years, he is almost 80 and as tough as old boots! I have loads of information on this family anything you need to know feel free to ask, I'm only too glad to help

Kaths21 your great uncle Williams wife was named Agnes she died when the kids were young. It is their son also called William who is almost 80 now.

I've just phoned my mum and asked how old William would be, and she said he would be in his 80's, 1934granada. My mum is in her 70's now. Did you know them?

Mary was my nan. Her youngest daughter is my mum. They lived in Bottling Wood. My nan died about 45 years ago. She would have been in her 100's now.

is billys wife still living i think she was younger than him

I think your wifes grandad, William was my great uncle. Which would make my mum and your wife second cousins (i think) My nans name was Mary Rigby (nee Lynch), and she was brought up in Victoria Street, Wallgate. I hope this helps. Can i ask if your father in law is still with us? If he is ask him if he had an aunty Mary or a cousin called Florence Rigby.

Are you any relation to Freddy Rigby from Bottling Wood? Just tell me your mothers/dads name, age etc and maybe I could give you more information.

Yeah you're spot on. Fred was my uncle, but unfortunately he passed away just over 2 years ago. There is only two of the rigby family left. My mum was Florence Rigby any my aunty Nora. My mum married Henry Stanier who lived somewhere near the bus depot.

I knew Freddy very well as he and my dad were good friends and they frequented the same pub on Wigan Lane. If Freddy wasn't in the Saracens Head he would be in the bookies! When I worked in the building trade I worked with Freddies brother Tommy Rigby. He lived on Sherwood Drive and if I remember correctly he lived with his sister. Is your mother Freddy and Tommys sister?

hi again. Yeah my mum was the youngest of the family. My uncle Thomas lived with his sister, my aunty Nora. Our Fred did used to go up Wigan Lane. I think his favourite haunt was the fox and goose. He was a real character was our Fred. Is there any chance you knew my dad? His name was Henry Stanier. He also worked in the building trade and was from Wallgate. He was really close to all of my mums brothers.

The Lynch family lived on Victoria st in Higher Ince.I knew them very well.I knew mrs Lynch,she died during the war time.Mary was brought up in Ramsbottom. I went to see her one time with Jimmy.That would be about 46 or 47.Bill would be about 77 now.Sorry to hear about Mary.She would be early 70s if she was still alive.Did you ever hear of a Sam Christy. I always thought it was mrs Lynch,s father.Hope this helps.

It would have been gater, as Mrs Agnus Lynch's maiden name was Christy. She died when her family were very young and her husband William Lynch senior was fighting in the army. He had to combine fighting a war and bringing four kids up. No easy task but with help, he succeeded. As far as I know Mary his daughter is still alive as I have just asked my Mrs, as Mary is her Auntie but we have not seen her for a few years.

It's no wonder we're all getting confused. Looks like the Lynch family were made up of mostly Mary's, Thomas' and Williams .

She will be related to you and your mother somehow. But I'm damned if I can think of a name for it! In a nutshell your Grandmother and my wifes Grandfather were brother and sister so I reckon that makes you blood relatives somewhere down the line

My grandparent where Jimmy and Maggy Lynch. My mother was Helen Lynch, she married Chris Green and had three children. They moved to Australia in 1959. Mum passed away in 2012 and dad passed away 2016. I am looking for photos.

Hello rgreen,when I was little,I used to play with your Mum in the street,
she was older than me and tended to look after me,I vividly remember us
spinning round and around in Great George St...she was a lovely
person.

Thankyou Monac . I have just returned to Australia from Wigan. While in Wigan we put Mum and Dads ashes with their families. I so happy you had fond memories of Mum.

then take the third photo down..( Jean Middleton) in Great George st) I'm
sure that is your grandparents house,they're stood at the front of the house
next to the Middletons..my Grandparents house is just out of shot to the
right hand side named Appleton Cottage..I do hope that I'm right for your sake.
