Hi Christine,
Was he the 2nd son of William Alker & Mary Johnson born 18 Oct 1830, bap 28 Jan 1831, abode Pemberton?
If so, sorry I have no further info about him. I also haven't found his death nor burial.
However my interest in the family mainly stems from 3 of his brother Thomas' daughters, 2 of whom married John Bromilow, the toffee manufacturer, the 3rd married my paternal g'ma's brother Richard Berry.
If this is your family and you would like to correspond further my e-mail can be found attached to James Berry 1894 in the Genealogy board.
Regards,
Malcolm.

Helen and I are descended from james and ellen arrowsmith 1736. Mine samuel ,1783 and hers james 1762. Found a death February 1891 for a william in wigan cemetery,,address sounds right but age too young, can't find a, death anywhere else in the country between 1888 when he was at daughters wedding and 1891 he's not in census for 1891 .so thinking it could be him with wrong age ?

Found him it's the william who died 1891 with wrong age on cert. But in the original which was sent for ,his step daughter mary emma thompson was present, she lived in 2. linney st, scholes, which was the address she gave and also lived at with Maria, her mother.

Unfortunately I no longer have a subscription with Ancestry, so will not be able to view it.
