I can’t remember Dad’s user name on this site but he did used to post on here in the past. Unfortunately Dad passed away at Christmas and I just thought I would add this post in case any of his old friends are still on here. ??

If Wigan was in Australia I would be able to meet you in a pub for a chat instead of coming on here.

Hello Lesley, I new your dad & mum, Lena, when I was about 10 yrs old ( now 81) when they helped out at a Christmas party
for kids from the orphanage in Billinge, At the time your dad worked for ( I think) the DAIILY EXPRESS in Manchester and your mum worked for my dad who had a snack bar in the old market hall. After a car crash you dad wasn't expected to live

Hi David,
Thanks for your reply.
Mum talked many a time about your Dad. She loved her days working in the market hall. I have a picture of her there somewhere.
Is Brian your brother? He and his wife came to live in Sydney years ago and when I came to Australia I went to visit them several times at their home at North Rocks. They were were involved with Camp Quality.
What was the full name of the Orphanage in Billinge?
Yes we did have a very bad car crash on the way home from holiday in Weston Super Mare.

Hi Lesley, Yes Brian was my brother who sadly died 18 months ago, Vera lives in Melbourne to be near Aaron, their son and family. she would happy to hear from you. I also have a photo of your mum and mine and at that time I had a crush on yours. Can't recall the year they moved to OZ though. years ago I hoped to meet up with your dad but holiday dates clashed and it fell thru. I was sorry to read he had died, The orphanage was ''GREENFIELDS'' regards to you and your family

Hi davee, so sorry to hear about Brian. I often think about them as they were so welcoming when I first met them in Australia. How can I contact your Mum - is she on here or does she have an email address. I don’t know if this can be done privately. How old would she be now. 10th are you on Facebook? I have a picture of my Mum at the cafe with another lady but I don’t know who this is. Maybe it is you Mum.
Mum was one of the nicest people you could wish to meet, I still miss her every day even after 15 years.

Hi Davee, Greenfields seems to be the main orphanage in Wigan at the time. However I have a memory of it as being somewhere else. This is going to be pretty vague as my memory for the names is not good but here goes.
If you drive out of WIGAN towards Woodhouse Lane direction, you pass Mesnes Park on your right.
Just past the park there was a bridge. Just under the bridge on the left there is a row of quite large houses. It was one of these houses that we would take toys to at Christmas.

Lesley Hello again, both mum & dad died some years ago.
I'll ask Vera if it's ok to give you her contact otherwise,e Camp Quality could help , that is if you want. Are you living in OZ or UK ? where ever, are you coping with the lockdown ? we are just about, bored out of our heads with all of it. Had the jab and have to wait 12 weeks for the second, My wife, Barbara , has the first tomorrow
