Does anyone remember hilary parkinson and kate fisher from high school and padi boland from grammar school? Love to contact them.

Can't believe nobody remembers these outstanding folk. H and her brother Cyril and padi from pemberton. We all lose touch with people who matter to us. Friendships of youth seem to matter more in these bleak times.

There is a post, in the People section, entitled MARKET HOTEL from 2008 by a member named daghda. She says Cyril passed away about 1993.

I know Cyr died and i think H lives somewhere in Orrell with her daughter but I've not heard anything for years.

Still no news of H and Padi.I read the threads about mesnes high school (aka Wigan grammar school) and wondered if anyone remembered girls high school and the teachers.
Gladys Holland head mistress taught me what length of glove to wear,what depth of curtsey and how to address the queen,the pope and ambassadors at the court of st
James.this was in 1972 and I lived in marsh green?!?!
Doris Derbyshire maths
Gerry Livesey chemistry
Bill Martindale physics promised me the Thomas Holland prize if I passed the a level.I did but the school became Whitley high school and the speech days(and prize giving) stopped
Miss Ely music used to play a classical tune on the piano to the whole school every Friday morning
Fanny bennett French I don't think I can comment on her
Lots more whose names I leave to others but I must say,there was never any corporal punishment at school.good mates and lots of laughs and a german trip to einbeck,which was amazing

Sorry, some surnames might be incorrectly spelt as it is quite a long time ago.
Around the year you mentioned (1972), there was a movement of teachers; some of the teachers mentioned above moved to Wigan Girls' High School (Whitley High School) from Gidlow School and some of them from Wigan Grammar School (Mesnes High School) due to changes in the education system and the 11+ examination being, as to say, dropped.
Miss Bennett: A lady with such a disarming honesty to charm even the most nauseating young pupil and guide them in the direction of correctness. The tones of her melodic vocal chords echoed down the corridors and out across the green and pleasant pastures to the far horizon.
