Black Jack Ashurst

Started by: jilly (18)

My grandmother, Sarah Jane Walker nee Lee was illegitimate born 1895 in The Old Engine Pub in Orrell.
All my family know is that her father was known as Black Jack and an Ashurst and lived in an agricultural hut in Dean wood.
Does anybody have a Black Jack in their family tree?

No Winnie. All we know is that he was a wrong 'un.
I have all records of Sarah Jane's marriage and her mother was called Elizabeth. I have all Elizabeth's records back as far as her Grandad Peter Lee born in Upholland in 1797 and his Dad was called James.
Just wondered if any body had an ancestor called Black Jack Ashurst so I could have more information on him.

Jilly in the 60s a man used to come by bus from Kitt Green and visit a family in Shevington, the kids of the family used to call him our uncle Jack
He was a big man and had dark skin.

Thanks Fat Mick but he would be a very old man in the 1960s if he was still alive. Sarah Jane was born Christmas day in 1895.
